Mine is still pending going on 5 years. Paid $3,500 for my lawyer.

Agree with all of this ^

Working in a corporate I've seen plenty of good candidates get denied because of DWI's.

He isn't a $500 lawyer. Lawyer probably charged him an hourly rate. Some attorneys charge a flat rate of $3,500 + for defense of a DUI.

Dumb advice:
Don't do field sobriety tests
Don't blow
Bail yourself out
Contact expensive attorney
He'll tell you what to do
In my cases, it was outside community service, community service for the city, MADD classes, defensive driving classes, go talk to this weird dude about drinking, go to a couple of AA meetings, and pay some more money. Bring all of that shite to court and your charges will be reduced substantially.
I haven't ever lost my license because I have always had a good attorney. I haven't ever been convicted because I have a good attorney. Do all of that shite and the case will be dropped down to a reckless operation or something stupid. Quit acting like you know what's going on
Another way to beat it is to keep asking for a new court date. After a couple of years, they'll drop the charges.

You don't say? Please, tell me more.

OK. I'll address the $500 lawyer decision. I talked to several lawyers I know and they all told me pretty much the same thing. The cops have you on video, they have your BAC and MADD has your arrest and that there is little chance of beating it. And while some may think they're "connected" enough, I bet there are very few public officials that will stake their livlihood on getting someone else's DUI to go away. All I needed from my lawyer was to appear for me in court and handle my OMV hearing. If you want more, you'll pay more.

My question: How in the frick to these people get away with 2nd and 3rd DUI's?
Take the OP, for instance. He has now had 1 DWI arrest. But he is going through PTI, so he will not have a conviction. If he is ever arrested again for DWI, it will show up for the cops as a DWI 2nd. And the paper will report it as a DWI 2nd. But, since there was no first conviction it will be treated as a DWI 1st.
This happens a lot within the system for various reasons, PTI being one of them. Another one is time passed between priors and the new arrest--if it is over a certain length of time you cannot use the prior conviction as a predicate for the new charge. So you get knocked down to being treated as a DWI 1st again. Another issue is different jurisdictions...if the priors were out of state, then many times they will not show up. All that to say that there are a lot of ways--PTI being one of them--that you will not be able to use the prior DWI arrests or convictions, and so what may "seem" like a DWI 3rd or 4th actually ends up being treated as a DWI 1st.

Paid little over 1300$ for mine in total with no community service or breathalyzer.
