Is it really a stretch to assume the vast majority of married couples with at least one spouse that posts on TD gross over 50k?

not to mention a site that is college centric, so the majority here have college degrees

100k, together, both working professionals

The people who with a single income of 50k life is meaningless, so they both have to work, neglecting kids, for the things they want in life

50k is not that much. Even for a new college grad.

Did you miss where I said it's just me and my wife? I also don't live in New Orleans, so I don't live in the "ghetto". I live in a 2200sft house right outside Nashville where cost of living isn't too high.

You're obviously just trolling now, or else you're incredibly fricking dense. People work to provide for their family's needs.

Be honest, why did you start this thread?

yes I understand that. It's not much especially compared to a dual income family....and that's because of the predominance of dual income families.

If everyone only had one working spouse, what % of the population could buy a $300k+ house? But since all new families are dual income, whole new neighborhoods of these homes are being built to keep up with DEMAND

If most house holds only had one earner, wages would likely be more because of less labor force

Yes. I'm not sure what point your are making. One of the benefits of a dual income household is that we afford nicer/better located houses.

With my mother bringing in almost half of that income. Benefits are very stable family atmosphere, great home life, and support for whatever my siblings and I had a passion for.

not really, the more equal the income the higher the chance of divorce.

quote:

A married woman earning more increases the probability of unhappiness in her union. Using data from 4,000 married couples surveyed as part of the US National Survey of Families and Households, the researchers show that the percentage of people who report being “very happy” with their marriage declines when a woman earns more money than her husband.

A woman outearning her husband could even doom the marriage, as the researchers report this “increases the likelihood of divorce by 50 percent.”

and a spouse could stay home to be with the children.

Everyone wanting their own career makes everything meaningless.

Depends on the income of second spouse working vs. The cost of childcare and gas/tolls plus the emotional cost of having two working.

If your net financial gain is 20 or 30k I say it's not worth it to have the other spouse work.
