my wife just got a 20% raise.

She now makes almost as much as I did when I graduated B-school.....in 1997.

Well dang, I need to quit my job, have a kid and be a stay at home mom. With that "salary" I'd be worth way more than I am now.

Plus, I'd get to be a CEO.

Oh FFS, this shite is ridiculous. No amount of PBJs with your mom/dad at lunch is going to make you a better/worse kid. I hate that this kind of shite is used in an attempt to make people feel guilty. If you feel so strongly about it, why should EITHER of the spouses work at all?

Hopefully he/she figures it out, but that comment caught me off guard.

I wonder if there's a study referencing the demographics of 25 year olds living at home after college. Are a majority of those from single or dual income households?

Venture a guess?

I do feel like there is a segment of the population so far up their kids' arse I can't imagine how they breathe.

It is as if the relationship between the parents completely stops. I don't think that is unavoidable or necessary.

I have found that this is a huge part of parenting. Soooo many things are thrown in your face to try to make you feel guilty.

She brings home the bacon, and can fry it in the pan.

I'm in love.

Only after becoming a parent did I realize how divided the parenting "community" is. Divided and insecure. It's never enough for them to be confident in their own choices. They must also justify their parenting decisions to others in the most obnoxious, condescending way.

Your disregard for the well-being, safety, and emotional confidence of your kids is utterly despicable. You should be nurturing them yourself every second of every day, not trusting that vital task to some basic stranger. What if they are being taught the ways of Satan right now?!

Oh man an obscure and potentially irrelevant statistic to throw into this debate? Let's hear it

I guess is in the eye of the beholder

I don't have one, just guessing that a higher % of those who went to school to obtain a degree in a non-income producing field of interest probably had dual income parental backing...of "follow you dreams"(because I feel guilty as shite for not being there)

Hypothesizing that those coming from poorer single income families would seek more trade/gainful employed fields of interest.

But it's all just a guess. So I guess I know where to shove it.

Hahahaha nope. Coming from a wealthy household has a huge benefit in terms of your chances at a high earning career.

And yes, you are full of shite. You arent living off of 50k combined income right now while your making 150k. Living off of 50k combined would have yall never going out to eat, drving one car, and no vacation or trips at all. It sounded like a sweet financial savvy brag, but in actuality it was asinine.

You are quite wrong. The only debt we have is the mortgage, my vehicle (which is set to be paid off in May, and her vehicle. No student loans, nothing else. We take trips all the time (albeit vacation money is saved throughout the year so I wouldn't count that in what we live off of). We do go out to eat more often than not and do other activities that we enjoy. I specifically said $50-$75k. If you can't live good off of that right outside of Nashville, you are doing something wrong. It isn't asinine.

Eta: I love it when random people like you think you know everything and think your way is the only way.
