this year’s levels are approaching the historic low set in 1988,
---so it was worse in '88, and we maintained a booming economy back then. hmmmmm

And yet we have people in Southern California screaming we should be pumping water to them

Admittedly have no idea what I’m talking about but can somebody explain why the solution isn’t to divert water away from the atchafalaya at the old river diversion and dam structure in Simmesport?

I thought global warming was supposed to make the waters rise?

Instead of using the Mississippi River,, Can't we just ship more goods by electric 18 wheelers and cars

That wouldn't have any affect on the river level north of it. I mean it might drain slower.

But the river bottom was lower in ‘88. It came up several feet in 2011 flood.

Meh. You had the dust bowl during the Great Depression and WW2 all at once.

Everything is always a “ threat” to our supply chain. bullshite. Not marginalizing riverine operations, but if there’s money to be made, an alternative to barges will be found and utilized.
The only thing that’s ever been a legitimate threat to our supply chain is the government. Especially when they overreact and send everyone home for two weeks.

Only if we use hydroelectric power from the river. Wait with the river levels low, hydropower my be impacted by the low water levels.

What gauge? The Memphis gauge just hit its all time low. Baton Rouge will be at the lowest levels since 1956 within the week.
