I know this is a joke, but people actually do forget about prohibition and organized crime caused by it
Prohibition never works.

But wasn't always legal and i'm sure a few people got knocked off during Prohibition.

There is some pretty fascinating history during Prohibition if you read about it as opposed to watching Hollywood movies. There are distinct parallels between the Cartels and the Gangs in the big cities running booze. New Orleans saw some violence with booze coming in through the port but most of the smuggling was from Canada as opposed to Mexico.
Little known fact, the government grandfathered in existing liquor when they passed the Act. So big restaurants and hotels ran out and bought warehouses full of liquor. There were places where you could go and get a legal drink even at the height of Prohibition. But the prices were outrageous. It became a status symbol.

They have swabs for THC testing now?

Yeah that's bullshite. Make it legal and the cartel is no longer killing anyone.
Besides LEO/DA will never let the golden goose fly away to legality. Way too much money to be made.

Yeah but that was like 50 years ago

Yea, I don't think there is much money for the cartels in weed anymore. I saw an article where they were saying that Mexican farmers make more from legal crops than they can from growing pot these days.

Weeds legal status is fine the way it is and I always laugh when people bring up the cartels because booze kills at least 10x more people than cartels each year.

Something being illegal or legal doesn't determine whether or not it's moral or ethical by any stretch. Remember, slavery was once legal in this country. Marijuana has been proven to have substantial medical benefits for many people and should be legal for open consumption, similar to alcohol. We've come a long was as a country to dispel the ignorance behind marijuana consumption. Unfortunately Louisiana will likely be one of the last states to legalize it. Legalizing marijuana could singlehandedly be take the biggest dent out of our budget crisis right now, but instead we're going to cut spending on things like education and raise taxes on already struggling families, all the while continuing to ruin lives by imprisoning people for consuming a practically harmless substance.

Not talking about employers. Just the way most people look down on others for smoking weed but will go get shitfaced staggering drunk but that's ok cause "it's legal"
"Reefer Madness" was decades ago. And has been the "attitude" for decades. Also, gateway drug mentality has been the norm for decades. Gonna take a few years for people to get over it.
Random drug tests are kinda crappy, but within an employers rights. Now if the guy did something sketchy and was "randomly" tested? thats one thing. Or a workmans comp thing? Then screw that guy. just like if he was drunk.
Not gonna even try to argue that alcohol is better than weed in some way. It's not a winnable argument.
IF it were legal and I would not be fired I would absolutely try edibles. I'd need about 5 pot heads with me that I trust though to handle the potential panic attack that I would have.

To me if a person ingests a substance to alter his state of mind, be it weed, alcohol, pills, or whatever it's the same thing.
Agreed. Provided it's on his own time and he doesn't bother anyone IDGAF.

The old excuse that alcohol is legal is bullshite.
Nope, this has merit and here's why. If you choose to violate the law, don't complain if you get caught. I also DGAF whether it should be illegal or not. For example, like most people I typically violate speed limits. If I get caught I don't waste time complaining about the law, I just pay the ticket and move on.
I don't look down on a weed user for being a weed user, I look down on people who get busted and then complain about the consequences.

This is a clear cut indication that you are a loser and you suck at life.
quote:
A guy that works at same company as I got popped on a random mouth swab for weed last week
So is this. While I don't think either should be illegal, knowing that D&D is illegal, you still do it and get busted, and the same for weed, you reap what you sew.

They've had them for years.

Anyone can get a DUI, it doesn't make you a piece of shite. There is a difference between blowing a .081 and getting ripshit and wrapping your car around a light pole. It's kind of fricked up that both come with the same consequences.

You are still using a substance to alter state of mind. Just because the government says its legal doesn't change anything. Thoughts
Government is the problem.
I don't give a shite what someone does on their own time as long as it's victimless

Yeah but don't you normally have to have more than one to get the ignition device?
Posted on 2/22/16 at 10:49 am to HogBalls
It is a lot easier for an employer to know if someone is drinking on the job. People can function while smoking weed if they don't eat everyone's lunch.

I don't think so. Pretty sure first offenders can get the interlock device. I would imagine it's a case by case basis.

Maybe one of our resident drunk drivers can weigh in.
