Still have images from our family vacation in LA (between stays in Vegas and San Fran) a couple of years ago, what a fabulous time we had. We stayed in an Air B&B in Laurel Canyon, traipsed all over the area. We loved everything.

Yeah like any city, there's some less desirable parts, but being an optimistic and fun loving people we are we ignored all that and focused on the many positives. Such as Santa Monica pier, Venice Beach, Hollywood, studios and theme parks, Peterson Automotive Museum, tar pits, crazy night clubs for the wife and I (ah the Dresden and the Whiskey), Griffith Park...

I was there about a year ago. Stayed downtown. It was a shite hole. I've spent time and stayed in Santa Monica, that was pretty nice and is what California should be like. Downtown LA just flat sucks.
