I think of the exact same thing. I assume the secret service has jammers that stop these, but with all the events that have crowds and how easy it seems to pilot and rig explosives, this could turn horrific easily.

Even without explosives, given the size and speed of even consumer drones. They could prove deadly to individuals.

Americans have been using huge drones for many years, I mean think of all the videos and movies with a predator drone that drops a bomb or shoots a guided missile at a terrorist vehicle we have seen.

Terrorists using these at events in the US would be a nightmare scenario. Hope we have decent defenses against them.

Who makes these drones?

They’re developing a lot of countermeasures to stop a drone attack. There’s handheld guns that look like radar detectors that can hijack a drone now. Most CM are in the EM spectrum but there are kinetic CM coming out. Shotguns seem to work fine.

Yeah, but predator drones are the size of small planes and fire from extremely far away, and also don't operate in packs. I can't imagine being a bunch of soldiers miles away from anything in a field with 20 suicide drones buzzing around you taking out your friends one by one while two or three more hover around recording it all in crystal clear HD footage.

I assume shooting them down or maybe an EMP type of thing would be the best defense. The problem with shooting them is unless you have some precision type thing just shooting them with a gun would seem really hard. Those things are fast and agile as frick.

so we can post links to tweets of Ukraine/Russian soldiers getting grenaded but we can't post tweets about a man getting ran over by car jacker?

I assume you didn’t watch the videos. This isn’t drones like you are thinking. This is like consumer/video type drones literally laced with explosives and flying into soldiers. You’re thinking drone attacks where gigantic drones fly above and drop bombs.

There's both. Some drop impact grenades or have actual guns, but the most common ones seem to be suicide drones that literally fly into people and explode.

Yep plenty of systems are developed to shoot them down now. Simple RF seeker types, because you know that are controlled by radios

Negative, drones biggest weakness is its datalink. Most of them can be easily jammed because they are not using sophisticated radios that can frequency hop.

Biggest problem is that it costs us more to shoot down a drone, than it is for an adversary to shoot them.

This. There's a special place in hell for war profiteers. Hope those yachts are worth it here in your mortal years because there's a pretty rough, eternal trade-off.

no escaping those drones, once they are locked in it’s over

can’t imagine getting hit by one, surviving the blast but knowing no one is going to save you out in the corn fields

Yep. I guess that one soldier knew that was the case so just gave himself a grenade to the chest to save the miserable hours of bleeding out on camera.

That shite infuriates me. One the war is pointless bloodshed. Two having someone in the AC killing people from their creature comforts doesn’t sit right.

How well are these drones guarded from theft? Terrorists getting possession of these drones could be horrific to outdoor gatherings like Presidential rallies or football games .

I can't imagine it's that hard to take a good commercial drone and throw low budget explosives on it.
