Been haunting townie watering holes for years when away from home for work. Great way to pass the time. I try to find some wholesome activities when on the road, and occasionally do, but sitting at a bar and catching a game is so easy.
It's not as good as cooking a gumbo/smoked brisket/pot of chili at home with the family, but it'll do in a pinch.

Other than an occasional trip to the sports bar to catch a game, I stopped going to the bar alone years ago. I don't know what it is, but it's always been this way for me: I am a weirdo magnet. Pick the most whacko person in the place, I guarantee they'll plop down next to me and start telling me crazy shite I don't want to hear. It's not just at bars either, every time I go to concerts alone, which is almost always, I'll run into some nutjob that has to talk to me. It got to a point where I disliked going out for a few drinks because I did not want to deal with the random crazies that approach me.
