The jack stud not supporting the header is an immediate termination offense.

I’d think the average time owning a DR Horton home is 5 years or less so who cares. If you’re looking for your lifetime ownership in a mass produced house, you deserve what you get.

Horton is the bottom tier of tract home builders but even whale shite like them needs to meet minimum standards.

If the inspector keeps turning up shite like this, which is why there is a lawsuit around Lafayette, that should be reason to pull their permits.

If the houses are passing the ahj inspections then those parish/city inspectors need to be held accountable as well. There is no way they are inspecting all those homes.

The unsupported header and missing joist hanger could lead to cracking in the molding and or drywall and the door/window below that header might have sticking issues over time IF it weren't addressed. As the builder, I would be highly pissed it happened, and would certainly address it with my framer.

If I were a shite builder and ignored/missed it, there are framing inspections by both the city and the engineer who signed off on the build who would have to miss it as well. Everything else (unsupported PEX, wrong sized joist hangars, poor lumber in places) is stupid but petty crap that will never show itself in the life of the home and is unfortunate but wouldn't affect the finished home (if they hire decent drywall people and finish carpenters)

EDIT
To be clear, I am in no way defending this shite but trying to explain why you may have been lead to believe that Horton is a "solid builder".

Some do, some don't. That's the issue with ANY non-custom, non-new homes. You are buying a completed product where any and all issues are behind drywall/siding/roofing and relying on a third party (a municipality) to ensure the work was done to code. That doesn't mean it was done well, only that it meets code. And the inspection to ensure it met code may have been done in 5 mins with the city truck running at 445pm on a Friday, or it may have been done by a hard arse with a pocket full of red tags over the course of an hour. You will never know.

And as a custom home builder, I am obviously biased in that opinion.

There is an inspector on YT who is in Arizona and posts some crazy stuff, much of it is DR Horton.

One example, he does mainly shorts

My personal favorite is the 2x4 as a door header. One of my daughters got one built (over my objections) and when I pointed out things like that I was told to mind my own business.

When doors start sticking don’t complain to me

Buy a home built between 1920 and 1950. They were built by actual craftsmen who cared about and valued their work not by low iq people who can’t even speak basic English or do basic multiplication or addition etc.

DSLD and DR Horton don’t even belong in the same sentence.

DSLD is still cookie cutter, but it’s much better build quality and reputation
