Fauci is a number jockey with an MD. He probably has not been around a patient since he was a resident 45+ years ago.

Around Christmas time, sooner if Trump loses in November.

I also didn’t vote for Trump to be a cheerleader—I expect him to listen to his experts he has gathered and make the best decision based on the data.

What do you think he's been doing shitbird?

He's a "cheerleader" when speaking to the nation everyday about the Kung Flu. Would you rather he say we're fricked and cause a panic?

Probably why he communicates with the public so poorly.

Has never discussed medical stuff with anyone other than doctors the past 50 years.

That's all well and good until you realize that one of the potential side effects of the drug is blindness. I'm on it right now for rheumatoid arthritis. I have to have a diagnostic performed every six months or so to make sure that the drug's not lingering in the eyes.

The build-up does take time and isn't likely to happen with a week or two dosage that you'd get while taking it for this, but blindness is the kind of side effect that will make a doc take a pause on telling everyone to start the meds. Then you have the two rocket scientists in Arizona who grabbed the chloroquine meant for their koi pond and took a healthy dose. The husband's dead now; wife's in ICU. All of those are reasons why Fauci and other responsible physicians are loathe to say on national TV that everyone should start taking the drug.

My wife is a pharmacy tech and the first time Trump mentioned the drug, she told me a doctor had come down to the pharmacy a few days before to fill a prescription he had written for himself and his wife for the drug. But I guess this doctor was just superstitious and doesn’t know anything either.

What he did was both unethical and not based on evidence.

Dr. Fauci’s word isn’t gospel. However, it is amazing to me how many people I know now that think they are smarter than medical experts like Dr. Fauci.

Here is the thing:

There are some extremely smart medical experts who disagree with Fauci

So if you agree with Fauci, you are inherently disagreeing with other medical experts. That’s why I find this entire charade of “listen to the experts you ignorant redneck” to be funny

This entire pandemic is a moving target where no expert seems to really know what’s happening

Fauci is a typical doctor. No definitive answer on anything. Every time you ask him a question it's always followed by a maybe. It's like answer the fricking question already. Either you know or you don't.

Dr. Fauci seems to be going out of his way to discredit it though.
Maybe since this is a cheap and easy to make generic drug that could have something to do with wanting a slow process. Big pharma has got in his pockets to help give them time to find something more expensive to sell to the American people.

This is typically the case for experts in any field. There's always a scenario where they can be wrong so unless you have a very nuanced and specific question, you'll likely get something with some truth to it but tempered with a lot of "maybes" and "ifs". This is particularly true in a field like infectious disease where there are many, many variables and muddy data.

Normally this would make sense if you have time. But the people in US hospitals don’t in this case. If I’m laying in a hospital bed and my lungs are on fire from coughing nonstop and the ER Dr asks me if want Hydroxychloroquine, I’ll say yes without a second thought. Because I’ll get desperate if I’m a few steps to death. And if a group of Drs say it helps, then it’s good enough for me.

That isn't how we practice medicine in 2020.

It kind of is during the pandemic since the FDA has approved emergency use of it.

No it isn't, not even kind of.

Being approved by bureaucratic "experts" and being something most competent doctors will throw at a problem are two entirely different things.

Why is Fauci considered wiser than other physicians?

Is he practicing medicine on a daily basis?

If I have 1, I've seen 20 doctors on YouTube saying Hydrochloquine is effective treatment on the Covid 19 virus.

Yet Fauci talks it down...then pushes the explosion of the virus...

His negativity is wearing thin...

We don't have time, according to him to wait on data...and trials...

Well they have the option now and if you had to choose certain death or throwing a bit of an unknown at them hoping it can save them...you wouldn't do it? Doctors are doing it all over the world. That's where the anecdotal evidence comes from.

So far, your points have been that the FDA approved it and some doctors around the world are using it in desperation.

I recommend any other doctors who are unsure take the advice of our top medical experts instead.

And this is why these stories shouldn't be taken seriously.

YouTube doctors? Please don't.

In a normal circumstance where you have time for data and a "robust study" I would agree, but in this case you have to throw what you have at it and see what works.I don't doubt he is a good person, but keeping the economy shutdown indefinitely will do way more harm than this virus could do. He does not seem to understand that aspect of it. It seems to be effective so far and if it is working that is the way to getting the economy while they work on finding a vaccine than good ,but if we don't get this thing started back up by May we are going to have much bigger problems ahead.
