Repairing and completing the downtown River Center Branch Library will take at least eight more months and cost nearly $2 million, according to the first update that contractors Buquet and Leblanc have released publicly since the library's construction halted in April.

The city-parish announced Thursday that the contracting firm provided a summary of the repair process for the steel structure where crucial supports holding up the upper floors failed several months ago. The library's architects originally said that they would release the cost estimate and timeline by late last week, but it has taken longer for the information to be made public.

What a horrible investment this was from the start. Nobody even rents books anymore.

What is the total cost for this library so far? Might be the most expensive library in the world

:slow clap:

Remind me again why we needed to replace the existing library downtown used only by the juror pool and a bunch of hobos using the computers to watch porn.

Because EBRPL has more money than they know what to do with and their taxes keep getting renewed.

Hey now, I use that library to print shite from time to time. But yeah, every time i’ve been in it, well over half the people there are homeless.

The most important part of the article.

quote:

The parish attorney's office is discussing the $1.9 million repair estimate with the building's designers and engineers, according to the update from the city-parish.

"Once all parties have had a chance to vet the numbers and agree upon the financial aspect of the quote, repair work will begin on the downtown library," reads the update.

No where does it say who is paying. You know why? Because no one has agreed to yet. I said in the first thread on this months ago that the taxpayers will end up holding the bag. I have yet to see anything to say otherwise.

i mean the architects and general contractors all ought to have some hefty insurance policies... probably will be litigated for a while

Because the old downtown library building wasn't pretty enough.

While taxpayers front the money for The repairs. And once the money does finally come in, it’ll be used on a “study” on why people aren’t using the new library

It will be interesting to see if the GC's general liability insurance kicks in immediately to cover the costs then subrogate against the design team, or if they simply wait for a change order to resume work.

I think we need a study done on why this didn't work out.

you can download their COR
it's a master-class...

they are requesting a signed COR NLT 09/17 in order to proceed with repairs
