Teachers don't decide if schools open. Get your head out of your arse.

You realize teachers still teach whether it's online or in person. And also, the vast majority of teachers can't wait to get back into the classroom.

Sit the frick down.

The teachers unions have been very loud about keeping schools closed.

Also, you need a third of teachers for on-line learning.

Teachers get paid for online learning. Haven't you heard about the many online universities? Do you suppose their prof teach for free?

So you're of the opinion they should still get paid if someone other than them decides they don't teach?

They do have a say here in St. Tammany where the school board’s decision to delay the start date has to be approved by the St. Tammany Federation of Teachers and School Employees.

Teachers Unions in Louisiana (3 of them) don't have as much power as people think

have no clout whatsoever in Louisiana. They exist in case of lawsuits...

I have 3 kids. 2 in private school and 1 in public school. When the pandemic hit the 2 in private went 100% online. Everyday their teacher engaged them until the last day of school. We heard from the public school twice in 60 days. They shouldn’t have gotten paid. Their excuse was they have kids at home etc. The rest of us do too.

My wife is a teacher in the public schools as well. Your experience, sadly, depended upon the district you're in. Ascension required teachers to maintain daily contact with the students and weekly contact with the parents. That was a requirement and everything was recorded to prove they did it.

At least one surrounding district (Livingston) literally told their teachers to not worry about it. Do what they could. There was no accountability.

Sadly, when it comes to public schools, the disctrict you're in makes an enormous difference in the experience you and your students have.

If teachers are teaching through remote means (i.e., live streaming lectures, grading assignments, etc.) then I have no issue with them getting paid as normal.
