Hung jury. Twice. They are debating whether to try him a third time.

If I recall right wasn’t the black boyfriend acquitted of the girls murder?
Two mistrials. Louisiana has the guy dead to rights on another murder. I think he was supposed to be extradited to Louisiana to face that charge.

The biggest hurdle that neither jury could get passed was the first responders reportedly saying that she said "Eric or Derick" when they asked her who did it to her.
She was near death, in shock, and burned over most of her body, including her face and mouth. No one could have understood much of what she was saying at that time. She died just a few hours later.

The girl in Mississippi who ended up set on fire by her black ex-BF comes to mind.
What ever happened with that one? It went cold? That whole story was so bizarre

He was already in jail in LA on crimes related to that case when MS charged him. He had used the other girls debit card and got caught. They then found that girl had been murdered, as well.

Her sister Madison could get it

They know who did it, and outside the sticking point of the girl saying a different name of her killer, he would and should have been found guilty. I don't think MS tries him for a third time, especially if LA charges him with murder and he is found guilty there.

North Mississippi Prosecutor John Champion explained what that means.
"He is now eligible for release on the charges involving the credit card," said Champion.
Champion referenced the 10-year sentence Tellis received in Louisiana for the unauthorized use of a debit card belonging to a Taiwanese exchange student in Monroe.
Tellis only had to serve 35 percent of that sentence.
However, he is also facing a murder charge in the death of the student. Prosecutors in Monroe have a retainer on Tellis for the murder.
Champion said he will likely leave Angola in February and go right to the county jail in Monroe, where he will await trial on the murder.

At least a 2nd degree murder conviction will bring a life sentence in Louisiana, however a hung jury for the burning death is unfathomable. The authorities had so much evidence against the TPOS, the jury makeup must’ve resulted in the hung jury in that Mississippi town.

The girl in the left and top right photo don't look like the same person at all. I have no idea what's going on in the bottom right photo.

They moved the trial to another county for the second trial, I believe.
