How many of you were told that it was bad to plant plants or dig on Good Friday? And why?

When I was a kid the old folks would forbid us to dig in the ground on Good Friday. Word was that you would see the blood of Christ if you dug into the ground..and like any curious kid, I dug. No, I didn't see any blood. But that was their belief.
God Bless You All.

I’ve never heard this. We are doing flowerbeds today. I’m glad the pope said hell isnt real, or we’d be fricked.

I have never heard of this, but my late great-grandpa actually told us it was good luck to plant your garden on Good Friday. My Dad always planted his tomatoes then.

Amen. Not working is for sinners. Idle hands belong to the devil.

My Uncle doesn't break the ground for all of Lent and makes a beautiful garden every year.

I've heard that before....BUT I always thought it was because Good Friday was supposed to be a day of fasting/solemnity/mourning...not working.

Of course I type this while I'm at work so go figure.

Never heard this. I know a lot of the old timers believed that you never planted your garden before good friday.

Don’t dig in the ground and don’t draw blood. My grandfather would always shave his face on Saturday night to be ready for Easter Mass.

Is this another stupidity like not eating meat on Fridays in Lent, only to stuff yourself with fried fish?

Waiting til after Good Friday to plant is usually because the last frost has passed.
