Ok, my venting is over now…

So I know I’ve talked about finding a dog a few times on here.

I finally found the perfect puppy at a municipal shelter. And I wanted to give an honest update because I’m sure others feel the same way.

I love her. I I unabashedly love her. She’s beautiful and ridiculously smart. She’s picking up a new training g concert a day. And sweet.

At the same time, I have felt myself enormously depressed.

I worry for her and worry I can’t provide for her what she needs. I worry I’ve made a horrible mistake. Maybe people could have come along and provided better.

She had to have surgery recently and she can’t go outside for 6 weeks. She’s very unsocialized. She is very sweet but she’s extremely aggressive in play she can do and refused to be calm. No “don’t bite” tactics have worked. The fact she’s teething right now doesn’t help. She is injured and can’t be around other dogs so she’s missing important puppy development time and she can’t exercise as much as she needs to due to the surgery. So I feel like I’m failing her. What if I’m not good enough to get her behavior to improve.

There are solutions out there. We will get through it. I’m happy to do what I can to give her the best life she can have

All you can do is what you can do.

Try to relax, chances are high it will all work out fine.

I have one dog that was mouthy as a pup but snaps his mouth open the millisecond his teeth touch flesh now, I have a very sweet bitch that never was a biter as a puppy but has a mouth you have to be aware of when playing, she just chomps down on anything whether it is a tug toy or my hand.

I’d just let it play out till she’s healthy. After that you can work with her on the aggressive nature. Also animals react differently when they’re injured. That might be a part of it.

This better not be a troll move. You can start a go fund me for a fake illness but don’t drag the dogs into this horseplay. The OT is the official TD dog board.

I have a rescue dog. She’s not very smart and a little all over the place but I love the hell out of that dog and she loves us. She gets so excited for her morning walks and hates the hell out of school busses. I let her have her fun.

Luckily we live in the country so she can keep all the squirrels out of the yard and loves to do it.

My wife got her a foam mattress bed and put a couple folded up comforters on it. She’s got a pretty good life and knows it.

Actually probably none. Think she’s a lab mix of some kind. She’s basically a wire haired lab

Nope, not at all. I’m just worried. I want her to be happy and she has such a strong play drive right now she’s frustrated.

If I see a personal dog thread without pics I downvote just like I would for a babe thread.

We love dogs, we have 5 but the two oldest probably only have a year or so left.
A puppy that you bring into your life and take care of will be with you until one of y’all die. One of my dogs also weighs 80 pounds that I’m pretty sure has the bread of peace in him, and he had to learn not to challenge myself, my wife or son. At the end of the day a puppy, for the most part will become what you want it to be.

Don't get too worked up about the biting at this point. She is probably still teething. This can last for 8 months. A chew toy might help.

Dude.. my dog doesn’t socialize much with other dogs and I can guarantee he doesn’t give a frick. All he wants to do is wrestle with me and cuddle on the couch. As long as you play with the pup and give her stimulation she will be fine. She doesn’t need to be going to dog parks and rolling around with other dogs to have a good life. That would absolutely be a plus but she doesn’t need that to be happy. Just chill out and let her get healthy then start introducing her to other dogs slowly. Preferably a bigger, patient dog that will put her in her place with the biting but not be so aggressive that they hurt her

She’s a puppy. You can figure this out. She’s trainable.

Dude it’s a freaking puppy. It’s going to be fine.

My dogs have never socialized with other dogs either. They’re absolutely fine. It’s a dog not an hgtv show.

Because it’s a PUPPY and it’s got a damn cone on its head. Again it’s going to be absolutely fine. Beats the hell out of not having the operation or being out to sleep
