Many people believe a Doberman Pinscher’s tail is too long and too strong to remain natural without injury, but I believe it is no stronger than that of most Labradors or Greyhounds

My dog is half Doberman, has the tail of a Doberman. Thing is like a fricking whip and he hits the wall and door frames with it hard af sometimes but it doesn't even phase him, never been remotely injured.

He unintentionally knocks stuff off the coffee table sometimes, but I never would have dreamed of docking it. frick that. He needs something to cover up his nasty butthole

Cropping the ears is a cruel and outdated practice - I would circumcise the dog though just to be safe.

Any larger working dog has usually been bred with the idea of cropping the ears for a long long time. As a result, their ear location can leave then much more susceptible to ear infections.

Any of the powerful breed will shke their heads with enough intensity to cause hematoma on their ears. Which they will then shake even more... Which leads to blood flying everywhere.

My kangal had smaller eaes which thankfully did not require cropping. Had they been larger, I 100% would have cropped to stand or short. For safety.

Even with shorter ears he occasional comes in the house with significant tears on his ears from a coyote or coon who figured going into his yard was a good idea.

Your working breeds typically don't even feel the surgery after.

I get there can be valid reason for actual working dogs, but very few people actually get working breed dogs for work.

Larry Benoit for a well-behaved family dog.

If you want to go beyond that, Louisiana Capital City Obedience Club. Competition quality obedience and agility, tracking, lure coursing, etc. Competition quality meaning they train with significant distractions for the express goal of showing your dog in the ring. You may never want to show your dog, but the training makes for an impressive all-around dog. Several Corso owners in the club.

Talking about tactical training is a whole different topic. You'll need good basics well before this and the correct temperament. Cajun Team Schutzhund Club.

If you plan on getting the ears cropped, I would look at getting her stomach tacked as well. See if it is possible to knock that out at the same time.

Also, the short term pain associated with cropping the ears in my opinion vastly outweighs the risk reoccurring hematomas that will happen from her shaking her head. You and her would rather that one quick ear cropping procedure over painful beignet looking ears throughout her life.

Cane Corsos should have the ears cropped just for hematoma prevention.

IF you are going to hunt with them it is an absolute necessity.

I have never been one to do aesthetic manipulation of pets but for working dogs it is a different story and in the case of CCs it even goes to pets. Just like most everything else tOT will have a group think opinion that is more often than not rooted in ignorance.

Any recommendations for a trainer and a vet to crop the ears?

Why do people do this?

I'm against cropping or docking. Yet I have an Aussie that came docked. Owner said only docked because three in the litter were NBT (odd thing where dogs that normally get their tails cut are born without them)
You can't breed NBT dogs in working class.

I was just a going to enjoy the trashy accusations and other fun commentary but had to reply to this one.

You’re wrong. Ear infection are not caused by pinnae (the ear flap) being uncropped. If a dog is shaking it’s head there is a good reason for it. I think it makes more sense to address the reason for the head shaking rather than cutting the pinnae to reduce aural hematomas.

Don’t even feel the surgery? Wtf? You think they’re just born without nerve endings in their head?

Don't crop his ears is my recommendation, and "yes" to Larry Benoit.

Yes, classic dobermans are so trashy.

Those aren't just Dobermans, they're "The Lads."

My wife had a Doberman when we first started dating in the early '80's, and she ultimately regretted having his ears cropped. Very cool dog, though. His name was Demon.

Cropping ears on a dog is mutilation. How about we crop yours too?

DVM, I see you.

They are not specifically caused by the coverage, but in wet dirty environments it doesn't help that most of them will tuck their ears back and even more tightly cover them.

Any of my working dogs that have been cropped, they haven't given two shits about their ears being cut. They 100% treat them less tenderly than they do with a hematoma. Yes, they feel pain, but working dogs have a much higher threshold than a regular dog.

All I meant.
