Dog has a large, soft mass on her side.

Came home a while ago and saw this. It's soft and squishy. She doesn't mind me touching it. Trying to get an appointment. Any idea what this is?

Abscess. My dog was sick for a few days. I took her to the vet and they gave antibiotics as they saw a high white blood cell count indicating an infection. She got a little better then went downhill again. Then in a matter of hours a big swelling like that popped up. We freaked an d brought her in. It's just a pocket of puss. They sliced it open and left it open to drain. Pretty disgusting actually. But healed up fine.

When I read the heading I was thinking lipoma. Looking at that picture I am thinking bone cancer.

Not the greatest pics, but this is my dog before and after. The lump was similar size. She quit eating and was running fever. First pic is right after they poked it with a needle. Just started oozing out puss and wouldn't stop.

Aren't squishy and certainly would be painful. Probably a big abscess which isn't uncommon in dogs, cats, horses, people, etc.

I have no background or education on the subject beyond my experience with my lab. She developed a couple of harmless fatty tumors, but they weren't that big, and they didn't show up overnight. I don't know that internal bleeding would be that localized. Is she breathing heavily or acting lethargic or anything like that?
I would think she would have a fever if she had an abscess that big, but that's just a guess.

Take your pocket knife. Pour whiskey on it (the blade) & lance it. Take both hands & push fluid/matter to the opening. Make sure you stand to the side when you lance it. There is gonna be a lot of pressure behind it. A lil purple spray & your good to go.

Honestly, after $700 at the vet, if I had something to numb the area on my dog, that's what I'd do. It's all they did.

A very large syringe needle. Just the needle, works very well also.
