Every company I've worked at, including the current, does pre-job, change of job and random testing. I'm in management now so I don't understand it. When I was in the field it made sense due to the dangers. That said I've worked the derrick and operated a drilling rig stoned out my mind. I would bring a joint up to the monkey board on an offshore rig I was on and smoke it up before making a trip. Made tripping pipe fun but it was incredibly stupid.

Can’t believe we are almost in the 2020s and some of the workplaces out there still do hair/urine tests for even drugs that are legalized in many states. I get it that you shouldn’t be high at work but what if you did it in your own free time on vacation 5 days ago...
The problem here is that you are ignorant to how drug testing works.
Tests are done in panels (5-10 & 12) - they don't just test for one thing.
We basically ignore THC when considering someone, but our panels still pick up the others that, even if you do them at home or on vacation, will likely cost you your job, as it's a high indicator of poor decision making skills.

The rub is that all those other drugs are out of your system within a day or two of use. If you fail a test for one of the other drugs, then yes you are likely a complete idiot or helpless addict. THC can stay in your system for weeks.
And most companies that drug test aren't as forgiving as yours is for a positive THC test.

Finance.
It's not the "wolf of wallstreet," but 3/4th of the team would likely be gone if they started drug testing.

They don’t ever test journalists or photographers

Heavy machinery industry and you’re damn right my employer tests. It’s a prerequisite for our employees to enter many of the petrochemical plants and other industrial facilities. How stringent the test depends on your job duties. Could be as simple as urinalysis for sales or a complete DISA hair follicle test for people that will actually perform installation or repairs of equipment.

My job requires DOT drug testing, urine.
But the company takes it one step further and does hair follicle.

Pipeline industry. Centerpoint makes us keep an active DOT UA to work on their ROW so I get randomed once or twice a year. When we get projects in the Houston area in the refineries we are subject to the DISA UA's. We have 3 crews that do any hair follicle work to save the company the embarrassment of a hand failing that test.
Marijuana still gets tested for on jobs thru legal states because they are technically federally regulated jobs

We're enrolled in DISA, TPS, and some other company IIRC. Idk why, but our company also gives us randoms too. You always get a "random" after vacation. I work in plants, refineries, mills, powerplants, etc. Basically everywhere that has something big that moves

I had to take one for my most recent job which is just an office job. I smoke weed pretty regularly for most of my adult life but stop if I am job searching on the chance they might require one. I think it is stupid and eventually when I run my own business one day I won’t do it.
I understand why it is necessary if you work with things like heavy machinery, engineering or medicine where you need to be sharp all of the time because people’s lives are at stake. But I think it’s dumb that I have to pee in a cpu to prove I can sit at my desk all day and work on a computer.

Can’t the business owner be sued if they fired an employee in Louisiana that qualified for legal medicinal pot?

If done properly...that's not what it's used for.
As discussed, there are some companies that have a zero tolerance policy based on the nature of the work. But, for an office worker, I would look at a positive THC test, along with the background check, to see if there's more to the story. For example, if you tested positive but had nothing in your background - probably not an issue. But, if you had a possession charge a couple of years ago and you tested positive, then I'd likely pass on you...or at least have a pretty good conversation with you about what you have going on.

A damn money racket that got directly connected with most plant and heavy industrial companies to provide drug screening and medical testing for workers.

There are companies that suckered a few plants into getting a drug testing program. After that, I believe the insurance companies started requiring most other companies to get in it. You have to test a certain percentage of your employees each year. The companies usually randomly pick from your employee pool by the ones who have been to the plant over the past few years.
My company is in three programs, and they also have their own. If they don't abide by the program, everyone in the company is banned from anywhere that uses that program

Sounds like a pretty sweet gig if you're into pee.
I'm glad I worked in industry and offshore when I was younger, but good God almighty I don't miss it. What a collection of wackjobs and snake oil salesmen the people running those businesses are...
