As discussed, there are some companies that have a zero tolerance policy based on the nature of the work. But, for an office worker, I would look at a positive THC test, along with the background check, to see if there's more to the story. For example, if you tested positive but had nothing in your background - probably not an issue. But, if you had a possession charge a couple of years ago and you tested positive, then I'd likely pass on you...or at least have a pretty good conversation with you about what you have going on.
I think most companies that test are no tolerance, unfortunately

It’s pretty silly I get random tests working a banking job

Architect.

Architects, landscape architects, and interior designers are never tested for shite unless you're being hired into the government.

Yeah, I've never heard of a company testing for something, getting back a positive, and continuing to employee that person. Is there a preseason for drug tests or something?

I've worked places like that, where we did something that occupied a pretty small niche and got to operate without much interference.

Sadly, some Todd McChouestMoran with bull horns on the front of his car will typically buy the company and ruin it- in every respect.

But...it's not...at least not for the company.

From the company side - what if you were under the influence of something one day and it caused an issue with a client, thus initiating some type of insurance claim to cover the loss. If the company sent you for a drug test and it came positive...and it comes out that you have other positive tests in the past, then the insurance company would probably not pay, as the company would've knowing kept you employed after repeated fails, which ultimately could've led to this scenario.

Drug tests are not for monitoring what employees are doing on their spare time, but as a way to cover the companies arse in a situation where the company fricks something up.

They do and do it often. As much as I want to smoke weed very often, I value my awesome job even more. It ain't worth it.

We get booted immediately, kicked off site, and have to turn in everything the company owns to whoever is closest. If we wanna contest it, we have to pay out of pocket, and our manager has to get approval from HR to let the second test be accepted in lieu of the first
