Just go to Chalmette / St. Bernard for an accent. Most, if not all, have “da parish” accent.

New Orleans accents YouTube
Someone let me know if this 3 1/2 min video is accurate. They break it down between Uptown, Downtown, and Bayou or Venetian Isles (yat). They make the Yat accent seem like the redneck version of accents of NOLA.

ETA: I'm an outsider who finds the NOLA accent fascinating, but don't know too much about the differences.

Oh my.

That yat accent wasn’t the original New Orleans accent.

I might not have lived there for long but my moms side of the family goes way way back there. And the state of New Orleans today is a fricking embarrassment

Do Yats still exist in NO?

There is a YT video from around 1993 of a walk down (IIRC) Magazine St where people lament how the culture seems to be fading into history

I’ve never heard of the downtown accent. I’ve heard of all the things he’s saying, but never once heard it referred to as the downtown accent.

The yat accent isnt limited to Venetian isles. St. Bernard parish is major Yat territory. The uptown accent sounded pretty accurate.

ETA: my wife is from Laplace and she has her own language too. South Louisiana is so unique with the different accents in the different areas.
