The Dallas area is ugly. Been here for 14 years and it's still weird to visit a dentist in a strip mall. Everything is done in a strip mall here.

Where in the frick do you live in Dallas that it’s like this?

While great is subjective you can't discount California which has an economy ~50% larger than TX.

I live in Louisiana but would rather live in Texas by a mile. I just don't want to uproot my kids when they have 6 years left of school

the petrochemical companies don't force you to criminally falsify data every single day that you work there.

FFS. If you can think of it to do, you can find it to do in the DFW metroplex. Want good schools? Check. Infrastructure? Check. Pro sports? All of the above. Entertainment? Yep. Outdoors activities? Hunting? Fishing? Yes to all.

Plus you can see Willie Nelson live at Billy Bobs every once in a while for $30.

You’re doing it wrong if you don’t like that area.

Texans have a can-do attitude that is hard to match elsewhere.

Inland, the piney woods are almost cathedral like and they smell really good when the temperature is just right to get the resin warmed up just right.

Wide open spaces in west Texas and clean air and being able to see miles and miles.

Tex Mex cooking.

International airports.

Major sports teams loaded with characters, most of them admirable.

The ability to laugh. (Aggie jokes)

The ability to work together after disasters.

Kindness to strangers.

The shared chill you feel the first time you walk into the Alamo and see the flags of the men from all over who died there.

The appreciation of the phrase "Let the bastards freeze to death in the dark."

I mean, I live here, and it’s not the most beautiful place. I mean Highland Park and a select few other areas are nice, but I’m not here for the natural scenery.

I'm assuming it has many redeeming qualities based on the shite ton of people that live there. I just haven't been able to figure out what they are.

I was talking more about the strip mall thing. It's not like that at all in the actual city of Dallas. I live in Lower Greenville and I couldn't tell you where the nearest strip mall is that holds an actual business I'd ever actually go to.

Texas is where jobs are, where income taxes are low, and property taxes are high but support good schools. That's its draw. Texas isn't popular for its weather or its scenery. People mostly live there purely for economic/educational reasons.

Not that I go to either, but Mockingbird has plenty of them.
