Does Texas have any redeeming qualities as a state?

Beautiful women. I don't love Texas as a state at all but they do have some seriously gorgeous women there. Hank Williams Jr is right on that.

Why do people hate strip malls? Do they not exist everywhere?

You aren’t in the actual city. Come to the actual city, there are shockingly few fat people here.

Jobs of all sorts. Functioning infrastructure. Fun. Bucee's.

If you're from Louisiana and talking smack about fat people? Smh.

Did I mention Bucee's?

All I’ll say is I spent 26 years in Louisiana before moving to Houston (now I live in Austin), and if I ever have to move back to Louisiana I will commit suicide.

Texas is the only state that could be a great country on its own.

It has tons of oil and farming. It has a growing tech community in Austin.

The Texas panhandle is an amazing place with all of the farming, including wind farms. Lake Meredith is beautiful.

It has a great transportation infrastructure compared to most states. The highway systems in Houston and Austin are amazing. ( Many props to TxDOT )

San Antonio is a nice city.

El Paso is a nice city. Even with Juarez next door, El Paso is much cleaner and safer than cities like New Orleans, Detroit, Memphis, Etc.

The Austin area continues to grow at an amazing rate. It is a great city, regardless of your politics.

There is great hiking and camping in North and West Texas.

There are some decent beaches on the coast if you get away from Galveston,

Overall, I really like Texas

Texas is a big state. DFW, as big as it is, isn't all that representative.

The Dallas area is ugly. Been here for 14 years and it's still weird to visit a dentist in a strip mall. Everything is done in a strip mall here. However, I've come to appreciate the conviemce of clustering business right outside neighborhoods to avoid traffic. Thus, the strip mall.

Other than that, what's to love?

1) Everything is clean. No litter.
2) The roads are fantastic and maintained regularly (Houston aside)
3) There is a significant difference in education level between TX and LA and it's noticeable everywhere in daily life: grocery store, drive thru, small business owners... Higher cognitive operation in others makes my life much less frustrating.
