Some of those ads look shady af.
I'd be afraid to give them personal info.

I'm trying to find some one to fill a spot at work, but i'm hesitant to respond to any of the people looking for work on certain sites.

especially craigslist

Indeed is legit. They are basically a job aggregator, though they do also have sponsored job listings.

Someone I know who works in HR told me that people call in all the time to check on the status of the job they applied for. If their name doesn't come up they ask them where did they apply and most of the time they say indeed.

Evidently indeed will take jobs from their site and then puts the starting salary at an average rate, which is usually higher than what the job actually pays.

Take that for what it's worth. It use to be a good site for finding jobs, but they depend on content so there is a lot of bullshite ads posted on there.

Definitely some questionable listings on there. I had one or two try to get my banking info "for direct deposit purposes" through text messages before I'd even interviewed.

I think it's mostly legit though, just use common sense.

I use it and pay to bump the ad up to the top. Works well.

Zip recruiter is pretty good. There is also glassdoor, dice, and linkedin.

I use it just to find the jobs then go to the actual company site and apply that way

My company used to use Indeed, but very few qualified applicants actually applied. Most everyone seemed to be applying with no intention of getting the job - simply used it as "proof" they were trying to keep getting UE benefits.

Not as shady as the emails where you can work from home shipping packages out that they send to you first. All you have to do is send them your personal info and you can be making over 100k
