re: Does "diversity" in a commercial drive you towards or away from a product

Inclusivity is wonderful. Just because racists and homophobes can’t hide their prejudices, that’s sick. People used to bitch about blacks in commercials. It’s 2019. Leave your George Wallace hate in 1968 with Archie Bunker..

I feel like this thread was just bait to make the homophobes/racists show themselves.

Why would this drive you away from buying a quality product? Genuinely curious.
Because (1) if you’re advertising gay guys in your commercial, I’m not a gay dude, and most people in the country aren’t gay. And (B) there isn’t really anything wrong with interracial couples, but tv is all about acting, and the fact that they tell these interracial people to act like they’re something they’re probably not tells you they’re willing to say whatever they can to persuade you to buy their product all the while not really focusing on the real benefits or quality of their product.

Always away
If their level of decision making is suspect to the risk of lost sales to make a point that has zero to do with their product, it makes me wonder what they are willing to risk in the actual production of that product?

Away majority of the commercials are so fake as frick and their marketeers for the company have no grasp of their audience or what the real world is like
Posted on 1/7/19 at 8:29 pm to WhiskeyThrottle
If it's forced and makes no fricking sense?
Yea.
Yea.

If I see them on an ad I just assume I'm one of the target populations or I'm neutral to positive inn the group's shown.
Its not like companies throw millions at advertising without research.

Doesn't sway my potential purchase. It's just annoying that they have to push it in every commercial.

Don't care about interracial couples at all. But once the gays show up, the channel gets changed.

Yeah, you liberals love inclusiveness as long as no one disagrees with you

Diversity in advertising is fine. They’re trying to create as big of a customer base as possible. That’s just good marketing.
I do agree that we live in a PC pressured world. I couldn’t care less what you are or who you sleep with. Stop trying to make me care.

Away, big time.
What I find most offensive about all of this is the social engineering aspect of these commercials. It is as if these companies think that we poor dumb sheep need to be educated about the right way to think about social policy. If you want to sell me a product, fine, but don't try to manipulate me and others into supporting one politicized view of the world over another. These commercials--and the one-sided virtue signalling that they represent--are purposefully insulting to a large segment of the population.
