Stray Cats was one of my main stomping grounds in the early 90's. Crazy to think the current Mayor of Hammond owned it back then. Ole Pete has come a long ways. Wasn't much into Chevy's or Extras. Most just Stray Cats, Brown Door and Central Fly Away.

Man, a lot of that time period in life is kind of a blur now. Like I remember something crazy that happened, but don't remember the bar we were at.

Same here. We liked Hammond bar scene as a decent break from the LSU scene or for off weekends, away games, etc. Holidays too.

From 2000-2004 Chevy’s was the place… when it was over by extra innings, not the church building.

Extra innings was usually the pregame… I think it was $1/$2 pitchers before 10pm… or some deal that.

Got arrested from a fight there one night…. Thought we got away, ran up to my buddy’s apartment , stripped to my Boxers, and jumped in bed. I didn’t fool them unfortunately…

What about the Brown Door?

I think they turned it into a gay bar or something.

But like an actual gay bar. Not just douche frat gay bar.

I want Juniors/Razzys back. Otis Day and the Nights played there at an epic toga party I attended.

Stray Cats opened in the mid 80s. I remember they always announced closing time with a Sinatra song.

It was in the same area as Mickey’s

Mariners has local bands on some nights

Stray Cats was the best bar overall.

I'm sure we have opened a beer together at some point then. Benny's is the only bar in Hammond I have been to in the last decade not counting Red, White, and Brew and Gnarly Barley's.

Yeh it was in the building closest to the street. Six Fortune backed up to it.

IDK if Brown Door is a full on gay bar now. but they do have drag nights lol.

I remember all the places listed plus a couple more shorter lived ones. Remember Beach Club out on W Thomas. Used to start off the night at Robert E Lee's sometimes if there was nothing going on. After the usual places closed we'd head out of the city limits to Somewhere Else lol.

I also remember a short lived club maybe in about 94 across the tracks over by the TKE house.

The guys from Mickey's now own Wise Guys Daiquiris.

Stray Cats, Extra Innings and Chevys

Hell, I went to State and we knew about those places. Memory lane. One night in Extras the lights went out for about 2 seconds for some reason. When they came back on every bartender was standing on the bar holding bats.

In the early 90s, they played Stray Cat Strut at closing time (as I remember it).
