My grandfather who fought in WW2 died when I was a kid so I never got the chance to ask him any questions about the war. My mom has told me that he really didn't say much about the war except that he has no desire to visit Europe because he crawled across it on his belly. I just find that generation of soldiers extremely interesting.

Mine all died in the early 00's

My wife has a 90yo grandmother who was 17 when the war ended. Her experience as a child during the Depression and WWII is pretty interesting. The rationing of consumer goods taught her frugality and to take care of things. She has a microwave from 1980

This is where everyone on the OTs grandfather stormed the beaches of dday. What they will leave out is the beaches were in Biloxi.

One of Scruffy’s grandfathers was some form of MP during WW2, but he has since passed.

The other grandfather (now 93) was a merchant marine.

Neither of Scruffy’s grandfathers did that.

Nope, Mine stormed the beaches of Algeria, Sicily, and Anzio Italy before being wounded in both knees by a German machine gun. He earned the Bronze Star for his efforts in Anzio.

My grandfathers were at Iwo and Leyte Gulf - they did not want to talk about it.

My granddad was a torpedo pilot in the Pacific, he was hit by a kamikaze and spent 2 years as a POW in Japan. He died 4 years ago, but he did talk about it from time to time so we know the stories. It's amazing what their generation went through as young men

My grandfather passed in 2006. Flew B24 in Italy, got emotional when I asked questions. Only story he shared was that local kids would come up begging for candy from airmen. They gave the kids a shoebox of shot from their flight. He laughed like a psychopath after telling that.

My dad was drafted in '43 but only saw action for a couple of weeks in the Battle of the Bulge. He was in Germany for about four years though.

But died in 2003, so no.

I had a grandfather who flew a glider on D-day. Came home and died of cancer not long after that.

My grandparents and great grandparents were all born at a weird timing where my grandparents were too young to be in WWII and my great grandparents were too old. My great uncle was ripe for Nam tho and was a green beret over there. Has some cool stories and was even frickin around with MAC V SOG behind enemy lines even after Saigon. He’s an interesting, but not necessarily mentally stable person.

My grandfather is 92 and was at Iwo Jima. He lied about his age to get in early.
