Email me if you’d like to talk about this on a more personal level if you’d like.
I don’t have much for you as far as experience with professional advice but I’ve had bad nights and talking about it with you might be positive.

You sound like a great husband.
That's debatable for sure.

I’m sorry to hear about your wife.
What strikes me is I have this person in my care who is actively dying. I'll do whatever it takes to make this as peaceful and less painful as possible.
We're both resigned to the eventual unavoidable outcome.
I never ever considered this. She's 6 1/2 years younger than me. I just always thought she would outlive me.

Prayers for the both of you
Thanks. It helps to know that.

I resent that you put TexasTiger in your username. This is not the forum for this type of inquiry and you're making us all look like pussies. This post does not represent Texas or Texas Tigers.

If by “alcohol” you mean drugs and porn - no, I don’t struggle with it.

I've done more stupid stuff drunk than you could count.
It's a daily struggle, I try to limit mine to Fri/Sat only.
And I'll say I feel 1000 times better during the week

After similar experiences, I read a book: This Naked Mind, by Annie Grace.
It helped me change my mindset on alcohol intake. Highly recommend

Always stuck with the wheel rule.
One drink per wheel

I read this thread and some of y’all’s stories are similar to mine - horrible hangovers, acting a fool in front of friends and family, couple of trips to jail. I’ve been in and out of AA meetings a dozen times. They never worked.
After 25+ years of drinking daily I decided to quit. I quit cold turkey. No rock bottom. I just quit.
It took some time to get used to it and you definitely need something to occupy your time that was regularly spent getting drunk. For me it was cooking, yard work, kids activities and even video games. Just something to fill your head space.
My life is so much better now. I actually look forward to bed time, reading a book as I get sleepy instead of passing out. I can actually function on the weekends instead of laying on the couch all day hungover.
If I can do it so can you. I promise. You just have to make up your mind. When you really want to quit you will

Addiction has been found to have a strong genetic component. Most people who are successful get some assistance.

I thought your first post was a joke, but I’m not sure what your angle is.
I’ve been a dick to lots of folks on here, but not really surrounding real life shite such as this. Like I said, I’m not downing myself in the suds 24-7. I don’t go to work wasted. I don’t physically (or knowingly emotionally) abuse anybody. I don’t drink and drive. With that said, I’m far from perfect. I want to do better, and I’ve seen many on this forum discuss alcohol struggles. I figured I could count on some honest answers with some light trolling, of course.
Again, I’m not sure what your angle is. If you want to call me out for being drunk and stupid as an adult, cool…I guess. You won’t say anything to me that I haven’t said to myself in a hungover state.

No, drinking responsibly is pretty easy. I can easily stop at one or two, or get drunk, but not so drunk where I’m doing or saying regrettable things.
