The docs themselves are to blame for a big part of this, as their cartel (AMA) actively prevents people from becoming doctors, thus driving up the price.
No, not really. The truth is more complicated. But from my view it is administrators that are the biggest problem. Most are a waste of space. The amount of administrators has grown exponentially since the 90's.

Seems to be working perfectly for the shareholders in corporate healthcare industries. Double the cost for half the service.

Functional medicine is the new frontier

Idiot, some actually went into medicine to help people. The govt regs and hospital take over of practices have ruined them. I know some that retired and do volunteer work in 3rd world countries just to help people.

Common reasons: they can't truly practice medicine, they can only operate like a rat in the maze that insurance gives them; burnout from seeing too many patients each day and only getting a couple of minutes with each; and basically not being able to make a profit unless the "fudge" (lie) on billing items.
I’ve never encountered a DR in America who “isn’t making a profit.”
Maybe they ain’t making what they used to or what they think they should, but I have yet to encounter a DR who has told me business is bad.

Primary care specialties can be an absolute grind, especially if you aren't truly in control of your practice. I cannot imagine doing clinic 4-5 days a week for the rest of my career. Clinic days are so mentally exhausting.
I don’t like hearing this. My son has match day in March (he passed his big test with flying colors :brag: He wants to be a primary care doctor specializing in Obstetrics. I tried talking him into going the Anesthesiologist route hard but he really liked the one on one during clinicals.

It's not that he's not making enough money, he can't operate ethically AND profitably ... it's choose one and lose the other ....

In my experience, the Ob/Gyn programs are toxic as hell and the L&D nurses are super fricking annoying.

Which of those countries have the obesity issues the US medical industry deals with on a daily basis?

Clearly a Kamala voter

Many have no clue on foreign healthcare and/or socialized medicine

but am told if you want to do it right and properly take care of your patients you can't do it through insurance.
Insurance companies don't come up with prices do they??? I'm seriously asking... who determines what a doctors fee is... or do they charge whatever the market a bear????

I guess FP in a rural area? Because there are a lot of people who exist out there who do well.
Anesthesia has become replaced by CRNAs and AA's or whatever in most states, they end up having to go into subspecialties: pain, cardiac, etc
More liability. More oversight. Less comp after MANY years of training and grinding will do that.
Think of it this way:
3-4 years of undergraduate (18-22)
4 years of medical school (22-26)
3-7 years of training (29-33) working MANY hours a week while making anywhere from 55-70k depending on year in most states.
That's the perfect situation, and now you accumulated 120k+ in loans to pay off too unless you have some family help.
While healthcare costs have gone up, c-suite pay has gone up, physician compensation has stayed flat for 30 years.

Start budgeting for boutique medicine.

the doctors i hear complaining about it either aren't suited to run a business or don't want to.
they didn't think they would have to spend hours managing people, hiring, billing and dealing with office drama.

Its why they love Medicare and hate insurance companies. They say they want to "freely practice medicine" which means abuse and overuse the shite out of the healthcare system at the cost of someone else.

It’s a combination of moral injury, hospital admin and politics. Most docs are liberals now days and most are female. Call me what you will, but 40% of all female physicians in the US don’t practice when they get out. Literally never help one patient after spending all that time in school. Don’t believe me, google it. 20% of female physicians only practice part time. Call me sexist or whatever but it’s facts. Make an incentive to work or require it to go to med school, you will start to see a change in health care

Get put on a waiting list for 9 months and pay little or nothing vs forego a procedure because you can't afford the out of pocket. Six of one, half dozen of the other. Bottom line, there aren't enough medical resources to go around under any system. They're going to get allocated somehow, and somebody is going to miss out.
The national health care model has a lot of problems but so does the for profit model. As dissatisfied as they may be with their own country's system, I have yet to hear any European say they'd trade it for ours.

Wut? Private insurance companies like Blue Cross or Humana pay doctors WAY more than Medicare does. Medicare is the floor when it comes to physician reimbursement (I'm ignoring Medicaid, which is so much worse it doesn't count).
