When seeing a doctor for the first time, during introduction, do you greet the doctor with a handshake?

I went to a doctor today for the first time, and when he walked into the examination room, he said my name, I nodded, said his name, and stuck out my hand to shake. He looked at my hand, and seemed taken aback. We didn't shake and I felt uncomfortable/ embarrassed during the rest of the visit.

What say the sages of the OT?

He is an orthopedic doc.

Probably a good idea not to shake hands in a medical setting in general.

If you are sick with a fever probably best to avoid contact until he puts gloves on

Always go for the shake. The doctor's hand should be a little wet. Then you know he/she is washing their hands after each person they see.

I disrobe in the waiting room to save everyone a little time.

Be prepared!

He sounds like an arse, especially if it's an ortho practice.

This in BR?

Very unusual for them to not shake your hand. I do it every time I see my GP, or an ortho for my broken body.
