Doctor ordered me to stop drinking today.

It's potentially related to a heart issue. I was already cutting back, but holy shite, this came out of left field. He also told me to lose weight.
Have you ever had one of those days where something happened and you realized that your life will never be the same from this moment forward?
I need one or more of you sober OT'ers to hold my hand and lead me through the valley of the shadow of sobriety. I have to do it. It's time.

Lose thirty or forty pounds and you can probably have a couple beverages again sporadically

I never go to the doctor so that I can avoid that kind of bad news. Has worked out well so far.

My wife and I stopped drinking almost 30 years ago. Just didn't want to bring that type of thing into our marriage. We both had a long family history of alcoholism on both sides. We didn't even drink all the time or have problems we just didn't want to take a chance.
Problems that you might not think are related to drinking just went away. Your life will be simpler and easier. If your friends are really your friends, they will support you.
Also, I had a full physical today and my bloodwork looks better than ever (I take no medicine) and I'm in great health for my age (50's). Live right and you will likely live a long time.

Probably shouldnt have required a doctor to tell you that you drink too much and you're obese. That's pretty basic selfcare shite.
