Do you wash new clothes or just wear them?

I was reading the Kohl's thread and Jon Ham rambled on about standing in the check out line. In that long rambling was this:
Which made me wonder am I the only one who wears clothes straight from the store. So, do you wash new clothes that you buy from the store or do you just wear them?

I just put them on although I buy almost everything online these days. I suspect most of them are just shipped from some warehouse.

For a lot of reasons, wash first. The multitude of people that touched your new clothing prior to you receiving are gross. I also like my new clothes, such as jeans or a cotton shirt, to shrink to their true size before wearing.

Always wash first. If anything, to get the dyes out a little. I remember wearing new jeans as a kid and the blue dye transferring onto my tighty whiteys.

Take a good whiff next time you have a new piece of clothing. It usually smells like chemicals and dye. Should go through 1 cycle before wearing.

It’s more of the thought that is disturbing than reality.
I mean what are you really going to catch?
As long as the clothes aren’t visibly soiled or smell bad and you’re in a reputable store, it’s just a personal preference.

I remember getting back from Sears and playing out in the front yard until dark on a summer day. My little brother was wearing a brand new pair of Tough Skin jeans (dark brown). When we were getting ready for our baths before bedtime he saw his knees had turned dark brown from the dye and launched into an inconsolable wail of anguish thinking that he was slowly turning dark brown all over starting at the knees. Of course, he was three years old so he had no idea that it was just the dye. I can only imagine what he would have thought had it been blue or green dye!

If it is clothes for the kids I actually do wash them but for me, no.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought clothes from a store (not online), but I would always wash them first.

Doorknobs must be quite a struggle.

New clothes always get washed first.

I normally don't wash clothes unless they seem a little stiff. The one exception is non-prewashed denim. As for chemicals, I figure I wear dry-cleaned pants against my skin probably 250 days a year so some leftover chemicals in a new shirt is minor compared to that exposure.

Nah, not only do I know how to wash clothes, I also know how to wash my hands.

I wash them.
They often use formaldehyde to preserve the packaging.

Keep in mind one of the last people to touch your “new” clothes was that snotty sweatshop worker with the 12th variant of Covid.
