If they have an odd smell to them or are wrinkled I wash them. Otherwise I don't.

Take a good whiff next time you have a new piece of clothing. It usually smells like chemicals and dye. Should go through 1 cycle before wearing.

This.

Get the chemicals off. Wash with baking soda and put white vinegar in fabric softener.

Which made me wonder am I the only one who wears clothes straight from the store. So, do you wash new clothes that you buy from the store or do you just wear them?

i used to, then one hot summer day i had a reaction to the new tee shirt i bought and had armpit rash everywhere after.

since that happened i tend to wash all new clothes before wearing it, you just never know what kinds of manufacturing chemicals and dyes are still on it

When I was a kid I saw a piece on 20/20 or 60 mins that revealed the squalor in 3rd world sweatshops and textile mills where our clothes are made. They highly recommended washing before wearing because of all sorts of pathogens, chemicals and general filth. I think of that anytime I momentarily consider just wearing an item before washing. Oddly, it never crosses my mind while trying things on but thats quick and necessary.

I mostly order clothing online these days once I figure out what I want. They come in plastic packaging and mostly without any tags or stickers on them. Those I’ll wear without a wash first. But something that’s been hung up and tried on in stores I always toss in the wash first.
