I turn mine off and pocket the keys. I live in BR so you guess why.

lol I just have an F150. Rule of threes, I had to think of something besides the actual reasons

Certainly…what is to be gained by not turning the engine off. Seems like you are assuming risk for no reward.

I don’t. Primary reason: it’s usually either hot AF or cold AF and so I want the AC/heater going. Secondary reason: minimize stop/starts.

The risk of anything negative is so small that it’s irrelevant.

Hell no, even though it pisses my wife off.

I don't smoke and I think Mythbusters busted that myth. I put all my faith in Jamie and Adam.

Diesel here, so never.
However I do think the spark from the brushes on the starter is a more dangerous ignition source than a hot surface or a static spark.

It is usually to hot to be cutting off the AC with passenger princess in vehicle.

I don't have a link to my internal knowledge bank, sorry. You'll just have to trust that I know a lot about how engines work. Or don't. As I said earlier, it doesn't matter in the context of this ridiculous discussion.

Well, so many cars these days have auto shut-off to save fuel. While they're a pain in the arse, I just don't think fuel injection takes as much fuel to start as carburetors did. Certainly not the time it takes to get the pump going, fill your tank, and get back in the car.

I have almost always left the engine running when I pump gas, but about ten years ago I was traveling with this skank and stopped for fuel. As I started pumping she got out of the car and started shouting at me, asking in a very loud voice, "Are you trying to kill me? Nobody has ever left me in a running car while they put gas in..."

I paused pumping and turned the ignition off for her (sex with this chick was fantastic, and I wasn't ready to jeopardize that! (I eventually tired of her shite, so now I refer to her as my bat-shite-crazy ex.)

No. Remember when they used to tell you not to use a cell phone when pumping gas? And now you pay with....a cell phone.
Besides, I use Sam's and I'm not sure what's underneath that parking lot but it messes up the signal of the key fob (keyless ignition) and it's a hassle to start if I turn off the engine.

Always. I have rarely seen or heard anyone fill up their car when it is running (other than in extreme cold) for over 40 years.

If it's super hot or super cold outside I don't want my car temperature to get fricked up so I leave it running. So the 4 months out of the year it is perfectly pleasant outside where I live, I'll turn off the car.

Yep, you are correct. It also seems that card with auto start are designed with that specific thing in mind.

*in my defense, I do big engine things, not dinky little car engine things.

This is why you keep your remote key in your pocket instead of your purse.

A lot of cars can still function without the remote key in the vehicle if it's already cranked.

Yes, many of them do. I can drive my wife's car without the fob anywhere near it.

It's Louisiana, it keeps you from standing in either 100 or 30 degree weather.

I turn it off to fuel up and leave it running in the garage. You never know when you might have to jam out.

For all the pussies complaining about losing heat when it's cold so they leave it running, go to Duffy's.
