The answer is no to both, especially if the plane in question is a tail dragger

I've flown to scale RC planes wired into a sit in cockpit simulator. Seemed pretty intuitive.

Have never successfully taken off heli.

Wildly different thrust to weight ratios. You have to manage your inertia much differently.

Back when things were simple a lot of people learned to fly Piper Cubs and similar simple planes out of grass fields on farms, or small county airports. From what I have been told the average person could solo, meaning take off, circle the field, and land after 5-6 hours of instruction. Same thing could be done today, but you are usually burdened with also learning airport, and radio procedures, basic navigation, and a bunch of other stuff before soloing, increasing the average to around 16-18 hours.

I say could take off, fly, and land a small aircraft.
Take off maybe/probably.

There's an old joke in aviation that goes, "Any landing you can walk away from is a successful landing."

Not sure many people could successfully land a plane with no training and "walk away" from it.

I was a flight instructor many years ago, flew 727's, have my ATP and 5000+ hours, so I'm not talking out of my arse.

Seems like the plane would be much slower to respond.... And require wild amounts more throttle.

I will add that while I have never flown a plane, I have a natural and instinctual understanding of the dimensions and limitations of machinery.

It may sound silly, but even a para glider was fairly easy to understand.

I have thousands of hours in a bunch of different types of airplanes and if I tried to fly a helicopter I'd be dead in less than 30 seconds
