No. The Tithe was something you ate. And ,yes, they had money then. Malachi was written to the Levitical priesthood, not gentiles. So that scripture was twisted so that modern, Protestant pastors could build huge seeker friendly franchise business empires. Instead, Paul said gives as the Lord leads you to give.

Some of the most successful people I know give generously to their church.
And maybe that's what they were called to do. I've never felt a calling to do that. But I have been blessed in many ways, and on more than one occasion I've felt compelled to give. My neighbor a few blocks over, who I have never met, had their house burn down. I felt a genuine calling to help them, and gave them a few hundred dollars the next morning. This also happened to a girl at the bank. I try my best to keep it anon. Having said that, I think your rich friends have possibly felt the same thing I felt, they were called to give for a certain thing.

The bible is very clear
I’m amazed at how many ‘Christian’s’ have never read the Bible cover to cover on their own. It’s really simple and straight forward. Not sure why we need 15 different Christian religions other than targeting weak people who can’t do shite on their own. It’s that simple.

And the smallest jewish "church" was suppose to be ten men. Each give a tenth and they can pay for a priest.
And yes.
And yes.

Nope..that is a social thing propagated by various churches. Once, I was phoned by the Catholic Church where I attended. I was frankly shocked that they even suggested that I give this amount of money to the church.
I tactfully declined and said that I would continue to drop $20 on the basket on occasions when I attended.

God doesn’t need your money. The Bible says He owns all of the cattle on a thousand hills.
Tithing is for our benefit. We, through faith, give because it is commanded in scripture. We express obedience as followers of Christ through our faith in giving.

Stunned to see how many give 10%
Is that usually on gross or net?

Why are you worrying about a prescribed tithe %??
God's not after your money. It's way worse than that!
He wants all of you.
Your heart. Once He's Lord of your whole life, you won't worry about the tithe percentage. He works it all out.

Giving 10% or even 5% is really, really dumb.

It's 10 percent of your yearly increase...not 10 percent of your total income. It helps to pay the utility bills and maintenance and other projects in your congregation.

Somebody here knows the Word.
That’s exactly why I try to tithe. I give as the Lord moves my Spirit. Sometimes it’s this. Sometimes it’s that. Sometimes it’s out of faith that He will provide.
I give because I love the Lord and I enjoy being obedient to Him.

The OP wasn't questioning the practice of tithing but whether 10% is required.

My pastor told me to tithe at age 18 and I blew it off. I starting with a small auto debit that I’ve increased significantly over the last 10 years and it coincided directly with my total income going up. So yeah, I tithe.

Noted. See Mark 12:41-44.
God values the sacrifice of the offering over the total amount given.

Tithing is biblical, but it is not New Testament.

I actually like what the Catholic Church say on tithing. All the charity work you do, all the donations you give, all the sacrifices you give to help others count as your giving and tithe.
