It's like calling someone in Vietnam who killed a kid with a bomb strapped to them, evil for killing the kid.
No, it's saying that the act was evil. It's calling the situation evil. Even if necessary.

The choice was made for those Japanese civilians (including children)
Don't be ridiculous. What choices of state does a child make? No one chooses to be born or where they are born.

no but I think the japanese were evil to what they did our downed pilots on chi chi jima and what they did our soldiers and marines that were captured in the PI...
read fly boys and ghost soldiers if you are ever feeling sorry for the japanese - if you are still feeling sorry for them after that - FACK YOU.
War is dirty nasty business, it usually exposes the worst in humankind - but in rare cases it does expose the best in humankind.
Win or don't fight....

He didn't apologize, Easy Rider. Return to shining your Goldwing chrome for the little cycle parade you're doing this weekend.

War is an evil thing. No one's hands are clean. I think you can recognize the necessary evils of war without apologizing for doing what you have to in order to survive. They started it, we finished it. I think it's important to remember those dark times so we can avoid them in the future.

I'll admit this discussion often leaves me wondering what would have happened if we didn't drop the bomb OR invade.
Just a blockade and attack any departing force or planes. Would they have surrendered? Starved to death? Attacked over and over just to die?

We didnt have precision weapons in WWII. Japanese people, including most adults and evan some children were ready to die for the Emporer who believed was a god.

It is maddening that people don't respect themselves enough to verify these things before repeating them.

The situation was shitty. But the act isn't evil if it is achieving the best possible outcome given the circumstance.

That was my point. The decision was made FOR the children by the Japanese empire when they refused surrender.
Whether that wound up being the bombing(s) that actually happened or the likely embargo(s) that would lead to starvation and many other, longer lasting problems for MANY more children and citizens, it was still decided FOR them.
I'm sorry, I just cannot call a specific act that has the best outcome in mind for a crap situation, evil. There was zero intent on killing any civilians by the United States until the Japanese empire forced our hand and gave us two options, both of which were extremely detrimental to the Japanese people, but only one of which was detrimental to the American soldiers.
Kudos to Truman for understanding the situation and taking the route that resulted the least casualties.

Did he say that Pearl Harbor was evil as well? I doubt it.

Nah. In the minds of Obama and his ilk, the US had it coming.

No, Japan would have never surrendered otherwise; but those things are inherently evil.
This.
People put so much effort into hating Obama and it doesn't matter what he really says or means. Obama didn't say that anyone was "evil to drop bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki" but that's what the haters want to believe so they just believe it and feel duty bound to call it out as the apology or anti-American sentiment that it wasn't.

Since the US goaded Japan into attacking the US and FDR let it happen it's one of the worst acts of terrorism I've ever seen. Of course given the US is the biggest state sponsored terrorist organization in the world given it's history I'm not shocked you simpletons would scream 'MERICA frick YEAH

That's not the point. You are arguing against a point that wasn't made.
