The Lunar landings did happen, and have been independently verified by other nations with no reason to give the US credit for "faking them".

There was also verification by individuals, one was a friend of my Dad's who intercepted the communications from the moon of Apollo 12 with homemade antenna and receiving equipment, he did not tell anyone other than a few friends and had no connection to NASA, there were several others doing the same thing.

With the successful Falcon 5 Heavy launch, I think we could do it in a year.

It’s all a question of the stakes. How badly you want it.

ETA: well this is a WTF bump

Personally I doubt NASA could do it again within the same timeframe.

What? It'd be child's play in today's world.

They did it in the 60s with basically TI83s for computers.

No expert believes moving flesh is reasonable. Only regards like you think it is a good idea.

The public would get more excited about space travel if we stopped spending their money on remote control toys to drive around mars and take boring pictures.

The purpose of NASA isn’t entertainment.

This is a horse that’s been beaten to death on here many times before, and hell if you’d like to have another go at it I’m game. But until we find an affordable way off this planet manned spaceflight makes zero sense. Everything that can be done on a manned mission can be done on an unmanned mission and a tiny fraction of the cost. Which means we can do a hell of a lot more of them.

I'm more of a fan of massive space stations that can migrate thru space for generations. We could be the aliens on Independence Day, ya know?

We do not have the national will to do it so no NASA can't and we probably shouldn't anyway. That would be like someone maxxed out on credit cards buying a boat.

They just need to focus on not fricking up SLS

The young guard of engineers at NASA haven’t efficiently been passed down information from the old guard in the circles I interact with, and they have some major hurdles to overcome that should have already been overcome before SLS will ever fly.

It’s probably heresy to say this as NASA is one of our customers, but I think private space flight is the real future. NASA just isn’t what they were in the 60s and 70s. They get bogged down much more in analysis paralysis when it comes to doing anything.

That's a negative, it's far longer than that.

Also not true. Stars are so far apart they'll hardly notice.

Nope.

Our galaxy will collide with another.

But the likelihood of there being any affects is shockingly low. Space is BIG.
