Had a heeler that passed recently that would rip a couple of coyotes to shreds, she was a fearless little badass, 60 lbs. of pure muscle

Two coyotes could take her down. Doesn't matter how fearless she is. One goes for her head and while she fends that one off, the other gets that hind tendon, to get her down. Then they finish her off at their leisure.

No doubt, they are great dogs and very protective. Aussies are too and I never thought mine was in any danger, until I saw how they attacked her.

Once the odds were 2 to 2, she wanted to after them and whup some arse.

A friend of mine who lived out west lost a 90 lb boxer mix to coyotes. My friend let his dog out on his property to do doggy business, he walked inside for just a couple of minutes to grab a drink. When he walked outside to check on his pal, three coyotes had already taken down his pal, they ran off when he started screaming at them. His pal was still alive but in bad shape, he died on the way to the vet.

Coyotes are indeed very dangerous because they're smart pack hunters. No dog is safe from coyotes because you don't know how many might be around and they may decide to gang up on one.

Wild animals like coyotes are no joke when it comes to messing with domestic animals.

Your dog Sylvester better not think that the wolf-looking thing lurking behind the trees will be as nice and playful as Brownie next door.

But honestly, I think domestic dogs absolutely can tell the difference between another dog and a coyote.

Yes and they also realize that they should be out hunting with the pack instead of bringing you slippers

Where do y'all get this stuff?

Although coyotes live in family groups, they usually travel and hunt alone or in loose pairs. In this way they are different from wolves, which sometimes leads to the impression that coyotes do not form packs since they are usually seen alone.

There is a creek bottom across the road from my house where coyotes run 3-4 times every night. When my dog hears them, she goes out and lets them know she's there (she does not allow animals into her turf). She won't go after a pack and they won't go after her on her own turf. She will pursue a single coyote out of the cow pasture behind my house.

They don’t hunt in packs all the time because a lot of their diet is small animals where that’s not necessary, but they are plenty capable of teaming up on large dogs or some other game.

They generally aren’t roving in packs like wolves do, but they do have packs. No, they don’t lure dogs in to ambush them, but they do run away from dogs back their dens where their family may be. Often times a solitary dog will chase one all the way back there and get ganged up on by the pack because it ran back to their den.

Coyotes absolutely can frick up even a large dog if they are cornered and threatened, but mostly will run away.

I suspect it depends on if your dog has been attacked by a large dog.
I had a friendly beagle. When out getting exercise she ran to a stranger who had a german shepherd. The Shepherd attacked and mauled her for several seconds. No serious damage. It taught her a valuable lesson.

The coyotes in my area will occasionally take down a calf when they get hungry enough. I'm sure they could dispatch a single mid sized dog if they wanted.

How big? I have two brittany spaniels that are 35 to 40 pounds and one brittany that is about 55 pounds. I'm always a little nervous when I'm out in the field/woods with my smaller dogs.

We've never lost a dog to coyotes but anything smaller than 25lbs I might be more wary of letting them roam too free by themselves. We've always had packs of coyotes around us and never had any trouble with them.

I've seen a heron try to catch a half grown cat before so crazy things can happen.
