Friend of mine had a Border Collie. The Border Collie was a ranch dog who spent all day with my friend. When he passed, the dog was inconsolable. She knew. She had no issues when he would go away on business. But, he had an aneurysm burst when the dog was with him out on the ranch.
The dog was gone within two weeks. I think she died of a broken heart. It was really sad.

They do
Think about it
When master leaves in the morning, and comes back in the evening- that’s a whole week to a dog

Zero doubt. They grieve when another dog they are bonded with dies too.
Our oldest dachshund grieved with his sister died. We did allow him to spend a little time next to her before we buried her so he would know she died and wasn’t missing.
We played a video on our phone of his sister barking about a week after and he jumped up like the doorbell rang. We showed him that it was on the phone and he laid back down beside us.
He’s now got a younger companion that keeps him busy now.

Pretty sure a dog would have zero trouble eating your corpse if he was trapped in the room for a few days.
Actually, I have read that cats WILL do this but dogs seldom if ever do. Dogs found with a deceased human companion, if food/water is not attainable will often die of starvation next to its deceased owner/human companion.
Probably because of pack behavior in dogs. Cats are loners and don’t view humans/owners in the same way.

Hachiko would probably be the best dog ever if we leave our biases for our own beautiful pets aside.

A dog is far from a human. They sense and they know. We are fortunate to have them in our lives. Humans have so much to learn.

Father in law's family dog cried at his empty bed for a few days after he died on Easter this year.

Yes they do. Also, we have two cats that essentially belong to the wife, She can go out for an hour or two and they walk the house crying kitty cries, looking for her. Everything is fine when she comes home.
They do like me a lot when I an feeding them kitty pate, but other than that I don't exist. sometimes they will walk by my chair and turn around to smell my toes, they once they verify it's me, they turn and walk away.

Not the wife's dog. She will probably be happy she can sleep on my side of the bed when I die.

I know that they do for an absolute fact.

I have witnessed it first hand. One of my best friends was an MWD dog handler and was killed by a suicide bomber. Our CO had someone bring his dog to the funeral and he laid by the casket weeping the whole time. Saddest thing I ever saw. He had to be retired after that. He couldn't be handled by anyone else.

Absolutely.
I've seen dogs grieve other dogs.

Without question
Have you not seen multiple photographs of dogs sitting on their owners’ graves weeping and crying?
It’s totally heart wrenching to watch that

Absolutely. The bond between a human and dog can be incredible.
A dog will love you more than any human can.
Like the saying goes.,. Lock your dog and wife in the trunk of a car and open it 30 minutes later and tell me which one is happy to see you
