Yep, and right behind them VHS tapes.
I bought a beeper the other day just to stay ahead of the game.

Yeah after civilization collapses and everyone is living off the grid.

I just bought one for my 92 mustang. Guy adds bluetooth to factory stereos. Bought a cassette the other day so I can play it once I get it installed.

Have the tapes been stored in a climate controlled environment over time? The tapes have probably degraded if they have been stored in unventilated storage places through the years like an attic. The drawbacks of tapes, just like LPs, is that they are not durable.
CDs made tapes obsolete, so the answer is the tapes probably aren't worth keeping unless the recorded material cannot be obtained anywhere else, and even so you should transfer the recorded material from the tape onto a digital medium.

They already have somewhat. Hipsters love them some cassette tapes now that the normies have rediscovered vinyl records.
I went to a concert a couple of years ago at a local hipster bar, and the opening act was only selling cassettes of their albums.

Donate them. I have an Elvis and a Beatles circa 60s cassettes. Now I have to check for deterioration.

I decided to store all my important computer data back on tape. I love the sequential reading aspect the best.

You should really use microfiche.

Was feeling all nostalgic awhile back and thought about buying an old boom box like the one I had in high school off Ebay. Then I had the realization that I don’t have any cassette tapes to play on one.

Time to let go of the mix tape, brother.

But then I wouldn't get that cool sound as the computer reads the tapes data.

Most yes, ones recorded from a good source on a deck similar to a Nakamichi Dragon is a different story. Buying one of those old 3 head Dragons in great shape today will set you back $3-4K today.
The magnetic media that is really seeing a comeback today is reel to reel, though still limited to serious audiophiles. People are paying $300-$500 for 1/4" at 15 ips albums that have essentially master tape quality.

nothing like the "click-clunk" sound of the eight track changing channels as you're in the back seat knocking the bottom out of your date
