Do you teach your kids the principles of American values and what they mean?

It seems like we have a HUGE gap of younger folks who completely lack any idea of what it means to be an American and lack any appreciation for what the US is and where it came from.

How do we make sure children coming into the world understand the uniqueness of the US and how much of an anomaly our country is when looking back on the history of mankind?

Depends on the parents, if your parents are Conservative then yes and if they are Liberals then no.

I started them off with a lesson in genocide and taking what belongs to you even if it belonged to someone else first.

I just buy kids posters of Hacksaw Jim Duggan. They get the picture.

Going through this with my son now. Zero respect for the flag or anthem. He likes the military but has absolutely no knowledge of the history behind it. He's only 4 now so I guess it could be worse. I hope he straightens up soon.

That's a pretty succinct way to state you teach your kids world history. I think OP specified american values though.

Just curious..

I like to think very simple....

Guaranteed shelter

Plentiful food

Everyone is considered as equal as any law in the existence of the world has ever allowed.

Widely available education for EVERYONE

All religious ideologies given equal status and protected under the law

Allowing different speech to be heard without the threat of violence or punishment

A highly secure nation with a super-powerful military to protect us from foreign threats.

We have it so good we can spend month a year arguing about sports without end.

Damn, lucky arse place.

How is that an "American Value"?

quote:

Plentiful food

Again, how is that considered to be an "American Value"?

quote:

That one makes sense as does...

quote:

Allowing different speech to be heard without the threat of violence or punishment

quote:

A highly secure nation with a super-powerful military to protect us from foreign threats

And now you've jumped back off of the "American Value" train again.

You seem to be confusing entitlement with your "American Value".

Imagine being so totally cucked out that you actually felt bad about liberating the United States of America from the savage no good Injuns.
