Good to know. I legitimately had no idea.

Proper Suit Care

This is a pretty good article on it.

There are fabric sprays out there to help with smell as well.

I own a steamer. If there are no stains I just steam my suit before I wear it.

Hell NO!. It'll ruin your suits. And most times you should NEVER take the jacket to the dry cleaners.

Depends if it gets dirty or not. If it is just a regular day, no. If it is 110' outside or if I dance my arse off, then yes.

No way man.

Jackets cleaned 3-4 times per year.

Pants after wearing about 3 times.

Shirts after 1 use.

Do you do your own dress shirts?

How much time does that take you?

Yep. I was at a wedding this weekend and it was hot as balls and my dance moves were hotter. I sweated pure bourbon into that thing for a few hours. Its going to the cleaners haha

Good Lord, NO!

Suits can be worn multiple times before needing to be cleaned - especially jackets.

Invest in an iron and ironing board...

I use the Woolite version every other week. Only time my suits went to he cleaner in the last 5 years was when we had a house fire and the insurance company paid for it .

During my stints in retail I realized that my suits didn't need cleaning, they needed pressing. A steamer will take care of that for you.

I wouldn't bring a suit to the cleaners more than twice a year (unless stained).

Now, if you're a high school or college kid getting tanked and trying to have sex while wearing a suit... yeah, get it cleaned after every date. Don't go to your cousin's wedding with makeup on your lapel and smelling of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

How does someone not get a dress shirt cleaned after each use--especially working in the South during summer?

No. Don't do it either. The chemicals wear out the fabric of the suits, especially wool. Hang immediately after wearing. Possibly steam it. Try to get at least three wears per laundry trip.

hat's crazy. I work in a business professional setting. Dress pants get worn for a full week and dress shirts two to three times before heading to the cleaners. Jackets once a year.

Sounds about right

You clean it every time? That will seriously degrade the lifespan of your suit. Dry cleaning chemicals are serious stuff. The amount you're doing it is a major waste of money. Unless I've gotten something on mine, I clean them about every 5 wears sometimes a bit more.
