I see certain people wearing them at my local walmart. I try and tell them they are being ridiculus and get them to take them off but it usually ends up with a big argument and me having to threaten them with physical force, aka knuckle sandwiches, if they dont stop getting mad at me and just listen to reason and “science”, which is on my side by the way!

This is true.

Also, not everyone wearing a mask is doing so because of COVID-19. I saw it occasionally before COVID-19, and now just a little more frequently. I usually see older black folks, older white folks, or Asians in my area, rarely anyone younger than 50.

On the occasion I see a masker in the wild, I assume there's something very wrong with that person, physically sick or sometimes just mentally sick, and I keep my distance.

Masks definitely help with allergies. Pollen has been awful this year. Mask wearing is not just for respiratory infections.

No one in the US hated masks more than me during COVID. By the end I was burning mine in my backyard I was so angry about it.

I worked with a guy who was diagnosed with leukemia and when he was down at his lowest due to treatments he had to mask up with a real mask because his immune system was gone.

Are most remaining younger mask people Reddit mentally ill people? Yes.

Do a small number of people require masks during treatments for life threatening illnesses? Yes.

I see three on a regular basis.

One is a woman at my local gym. White lady.

The other two work at my local HEB. One is a short, fat, twenty something nerdy cashier girl.

The other appears to be a Hispanic dude based on his complexion. I think he wears one to hide acne though. He seems normal otherwise.

I see the occasional old person, or black person, or old black person.

I give the old folks the benefit of the doubt that they have some other immunocompromised situation happening.

(Now, my own 82 year old mom who has almost died twice since 2020 would probably rather go on and die than wear one. But she wouldnt wear one during Covid either.)

A virus relationship to an N95 mask while breathing is like throwing sand through a chainlink fence.

An N95 mask will filter particles as small as 3000 nanometers.

The Covid and Flu viruses range between 80 and 120 nanometers.

All known viruses range between 20 and 400 nanometers. The very largest virus particles flow through an N95 mask like you are not even wearing it.

So an N95 mask is just a fashion statement of ignorance unless you are doing yard work or are in a dusty environment, as most dust particles you will encounter range between 1000 to 100,000 nanometers.

Yes. Daily. Mainly the blacks, sometimes you run across one of those old Elizabeth Warren looking white women.

Weirdest thing about the blacks, I think they're wearing the same shitty cloth one from 2020, so I'm trying to figure out if they're really that dumb or if they're trying to make one of their perplexing fashion statements.

The old whites that wear them are hardcore N95 wearers for the most part.

Anyone wearing masks now fall into one of these categories:

-Wearing them to lessen pollen/dirt/grass/etc impact on their allergies
-Sick (or believe they are) and not wanting to infect others
-Hypochondriatic freaks who think they are saving themselves from the 'rona or something else they can't see but scares the shite out of them
-Know they will possibly be (or likely to be) committing a crime soon

I live mostly in SE Asia, so yeah all the time … and from my understanding, it was pretty commonplace here to wear masks (esp when sick) for a large portion of the population, many years before C19 .

Spent the year of 2000 in South Korea, wearing masks was very common in public. I appreciate it, doesn't bother me at all.
