My wife has a whole system. I think she washes strawberries in vinegar. The dirt remnants after the wash are pretty gross.

Im watching Fox news and I just caught one of those commercials for "eat clean".. Supposedly you spray your produce and rinse it off. It rinses off pesticide, dirt, and other crap and also makes your produce last up to 5x longer...
Gimmick or for real?

My wife mixes some type of vinegar water solution and cleans all the fruit and veggies right as soon as she gets back from the market and lays them out to dry

No. I eat food out of the trunk of a Latina women’s car on a regular basis so dirty grapes are the least of my worries. Besides, I eat half of the grapes before I even check out at the grocery.

I do this vinegar water rince to extend the produce aboard my sailboat. Berrys don’t mold after two weeks, raspberry, strawberrys etc.
tomatoes to pears all splash to reduce the surface bacteria.

^this
I give all my produce a good soak in apple cider vinegar, rinse, and then a soak in baking soda to neutralize the vinegar.
I don’t think I’m autistic…I just know how filthy some folks are.

Few pounds of grapes in a bowl. Box of baking aoda. Fill with water. Wait and rinse...grapes will last two weeks in the fridge after that.

quote:I always get a bowl run some cold water in it then add some baking soda. Swirl it around to mix it and then put the fruit and/or veggies in them. Swirl it around some more and then take them out and rinse them off with cold water. dry them off a little and then put them in a container and into the fridge. What's left over in that bowl of water and baking soda varies from gross to wtf is that.
Does rinsing them with water do anything at all?
