Reading through this thread makes me so happy to have the job I have. No one looks over my shoulder, I set my own hours, and I can change them on a whim and no one cares. I just have to be good at it and not piss important people off.

What kind of an a-hole would bitch at people for taking their PTO? As long as you aren’t consistently doing it last minute or abusing it, it’s your time.

Does the company compensate you at the end of the year for unused PTO and at what rate do they compensate at?

This seems like an unbelievably petty complaint and that is saying something considering. It is their PTO, literally why it is there.

Gee, you must really hate people that retire, then. PTO for them is Permanent Time Off.

Oh, baby, yeah! Rubbing it in. I'm on PTO. Come at me, bro.

So, you spend all morning fricking off on here making a compete arse of yourself, then you leave a little before 12:30 PM for lunch and get back to the office a little before 3:00 PM and immediately come right back here to continue making a complete arse of yourself.

Yeah, you’re all assholes and elbows getting work done.

Only 40% of Boomers are adequately prepared for retirement. They aren't all paragons of financial stability.

So you evaluate him negatively for using the compensation you gave him to entice his employment.

quote:

He has work to do and he’s choosing to not do it for now reason. If you are on vacation, please enjoy your time off. If you are sick, take a day off. It’s your PTO, use it. Taking a day off when there is shite to do for no reason, shows me you won’t get the job done when it’s nut cutting time

So you didn't think providing context mattered to the discussion? And this still lacks context.

1. Is he a good and valuable employee?
2. Is the deadline imminent or can it wait until Monday to pick this back up?
3. If he takes today, do you have confidence he can get it done starting Monday?
4. Is there any other real cost you can point to associated with him taking PTO?

The answer to these questions makes a big difference. If he's a bum and the deadline is imminent, then squash it. If that's not the case, then why get your knickers in a twist?

And? I’m in my home office. So what?

That doesn’t change the fact you shite on this guy for taking a legit day off while you don’t take a day off but instead spend the entire day fricking off on an internet message board.

Let me ask you this, let’s say that guy didn’t come and ask for a day off. Instead, he came in this morning like it was a normal work day, but instead of doing anything, you discover he spent the entire day on an internet message board, only pausing long enough to take a two and a half hour lunch.

What would you do to him?

The company will take all it can get from you and bleed your energy. You must get all and every part of any benefit to the max. Stretch what you can too. If you die today someone else will be doing your job tmo. I did 43 years and learned over time to “get yours”.

That's dumb. How does that benefit you and your family at all?

Been there and done it! I take it all now. I've seen companies screw so many people that, I realize we are just numbers.

Doesn’t matter in the least. I work from home probably 85% of the time, and for the last three weeks, 100% of the time. Doesn’t matter which office you’re in.

The only thing you’ve got done is to make a complete arse of yourself today.

Congratulations.

But you still didn’t answer my question, so, I’m asking it again…
