I do respect people who live their lives and spend time with family and friends more than people who trudge into the office and do the same boring shite every day.

And I’m sure the only reason you’ve not posted since 12:24 is because you went to heat up your hot pockets for lunch.

As a boomer who lived to work and never took any of my PTO nor all of my vacation time; I feel stupid for not taking the time I earned and they offered. No one is irreplaceable.

I missed too many school plays; practices and games because I was always a good soldier. Stage IV cancer retired me at age 54. In many ways, surviving cancer made me a better person and I realized there is a whole lot more to life than putting in that 50-60 hours a week.

We have saved well so financially retirement is on track. Physically; I am a wreck and I wish I had taken advantage of the time back when the kids and my wife and I were younger. Put me in at Hell Yes! Take as much time off as you have earned. Don't play hooky or anything like that, but if you have earned PTO, use it.

Due to state and federal minimum wage laws, I don’t think McDonalds can legally pay him any less than they are now.

That's partly why he's so mad. He doesn't know how to start up the shake machine. The guy who did, took the day off. So his location has the shake machine down today and customers are bitching at him. As a manager he should know how to operate every machine, but he's a lazy bitch relying on the long term employees to do his job.

Great post.

The whole concept of "work until your hands bleed" isn't wrong per se, but it was born in an era when men truly did have to put their bodies and comfort on the line in order to provide for their families.

For some people, that fact of life is sadly still true. But for many -- and I'd dare say most -- that's not the case anymore. One can secure a fairly decent life for their families without putting themselves through the grinder. Many do it now because they want the bigger house, nicer car, etc.

We have countless examples of men who've expressed regret on their deathbeds that they spent too much time at work. What they really mean is that, somewhere along the line, they lost sight of the bigger picture. The whole point of working hard was to provide for their families, but the best way to provide is to be there for them; not buy them a bunch of nice stuff.

quote:

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

He's not free to do whatever he wants. He's allowed to request PTO per his employment agreement, and you're allowed to grant it or not (according to what you've claimed).

Someone is evaluating your performance, too, boss.

If they do their job and complete their tasks on time then they should take the time off the company gives them

When you die know what will happen? Your boss that you sacrificed all your free time and potential experiences and memories with your family for will send a bouquet of flowers to your funeral and start looking for your replacement. And your family will have nothing good to say about you because you were the workaholic that never took time to be with them

Given that most employers have you by the balls and are sending countless emails, texts, or calls on days off…I encourage everyone to stay away as much as they can.

That’s shite women do. What’s he going to do, sit at home, eat bon bons, and watch General Hospital?

I dont' really care how people take their PTO as long as we are getting results. Results are what should be respected.

I can also think of a dozen different things I could do in day other than work, and it ain't bon bons and soaps.

I’ve got 33 days and will use every single one this year. Normally get 26 days but rolled 7 to this year. I don’t work much November to Jan 15th.

Why would I work for free??

Another way of looking at it: if a public company is being audited and they have employees that don't take their vacation days, they are automatically flagged for scrutiny as it is a red flag for fraud/theft.
