A OG Nintendo in the late 80’s was $100.00, that was a lot. I mowed a shite ton of yards to get that.

Ha ! The first “technology” in the household, besides the transistor radio, was a b&w TV. Dad helped a guy repossess it & paid $ 25.
Now in my Dad journey, I was quite an audio freak. Had what I consider the best component CD player ever; retail $ 3,500. We won’t talk about the DAT player :-).
At the time, if you would have hold me the CD would be obsolete in my lifetime, you would have been laughed out of the bar.
While the new age tech is a lot of fun, life was simpler with out a cell phone :-)

I remember a VCR being the only big gift for us 3 boys. We got stocking stuffers with it. Showbiz Video on Perkins at Potwin was our new favorite place.

Parents paid over $300 for a handheld 4 function calculator when they first came out in early 1970s. I think you can get them for under $1 off ebay now.

In 1980 I bought my first computer. A Timex/Sinclair ZX81. I saved grass cutting money and then paid $100 for it. It ran at 3MHz and had 1K ram. I had to save up to buy the 32k ram upgrade. I think it cost as much as the computer.

I remember when I built a Heathkit 120 watt Amplifier, had a Tandberg reel to reel Tape Recorder, Dual Turntable, and Lancer 77 Speakers. All those were rated tops by Consumer Guide in the 60's.
After my sons were grown men they were looking at that stuff stored in the basement they were surprised.
I only have the speakers now connected to a Yamaha Amplifier.

Over $1000 for a VCR back in '76.

My Dad got a Beta VCR when I was in college, from where, I don't know. Wound up trading it for a washing machine.

My parents bought a JVC Marty McFly style camcorder when I was born in the mid-80s. It also doubled as our VCR. Always wondered how much they dropped on that

I interned at KALB in 1984, and those handheld video cameras must have weighed 30 lbs. It helped to put a folded towel on your shoulder.
