I had an AP US History teacher start on us with the "the Constitution is a living document" bullshite in 11th grade. Thankfully, I had an adjunct prof at LSU help me figure out why that was bad. Prior to him making us read, "The Myth of the Noble Savage," and other books, and explaining why the pre-marxists wanted rights enumerated so they could take everything that wasn't enumerated from us, I got more militant. Almost all of it was before 1776.

There are a ton of perspectives that we should take into account that are shunned these days.

Of course, there is never enough time to learn perspective.

I think history is a bastard if what it should be in school. I think too many English classes are required when History is overlooked. Proper grammar is important, but Beawulf is not. You can mix actual history with proper English dialect to complete the story.

The education curriculum is a disaster currently. We teach to tests, not actual interests.

See if I'm being honest, that's just not my experience in high school and certainly not college, but that's kind of an unreasonable measuring stick.

And maybe it was because I grew up in Texas in the 70s and 80s but y'all would have grown up in Louisiana and in that era, we got a traditional Western Civilization education in high school. Y'all are telling me they taught liberal stuff in your time?

And it may have just been my experience since history was my thing, and I may have been more engaged, but what they're teaching kids now was nowhere near my education.

There was an LSU Prof. Civil War guy that was in a syllabus at Rice,

My favorite teacher in HS used to tell us “history is just a bunch of lies that have been agreed to”

This came from a Marine Korean War Purple Heart recipient.

He also said that the winners of the wars always get to write the history books.

Nope, but I was a social studies major in the Bible Belt. I did question some of my more liberal education and English teachers though.
