That is one reason why my wife’s name is not on any accounts that has substantial funds.

Thankfully my two retirement accounts are separate. She blew both her retirement accounts as well.
I get what you are saying, but you really don't live your day to day life thinking your wife of close to 20 years is going to lose her shite in her late 40s, befriend a feminist nut job, the leverage Covid shutting down the world to steer a divorce because of her "happiness".
I have no regrets. I ended up in a better spot anyway. She did me and my kids, a HUGE favor.

Stop being selfish.
Oh yea... this little treasure of an advice nugget always given to me by someone who has multiple sets of grandparents willing to take the kids whenever... we dont. But sure...when its us 4 home from the hospital that 4 year old is gonna spend hours bonding w a new born.... and man the stuff they'll get into when hes 5 and the baby is 1....

So are you like upper in job title and make $101k so it’s six figures or you make $500k+ which would be high level six figures. Must not be the latter because you wouldn’t feel crunched by a car expense.
We live way below.
We live way below.

Making low six figures isn't priced out of anywhere but the nicest areas in California.

Works for me but the lifestyle probably does not suit Americans born after 1979

Good for you. But she’s probably the beneficiary huh? Maybe not good for you.

Yes, I have very modest tastes and have no desire to buy a home or vehicle or anything that strains our finances. I know very many folks who have no trouble crossing that line but shite like that really doesn't matter to me.

below...
we pretty much try to live off just the wife's salary and quarterly dividends from the pharmacies... so basically, my entire salary is sorta "extra"

I’m more of the you only live once crowd. If my wife and I want something within reason I buy it. More than likely I’ll be financing a portion of and that’s ok to me. It may require me to work longer but I don’t want to have a bunch of money going into my 60’s then kill over without enjoying some things that my wife and I like while we in our 40’s.
I wish I didn’t like some of the nicer things but unfortunately my wife and I both do.

Way below .. but only because i was able to exit America . I was making decent money (low six figures) but with the cost of living what it is, i was spinning my wheels, not able to save or invest as much as i wanted to.. basically, i was priced out of America and can no longer afford to be an American .
Lol the single guy making “low six figures” couldn’t make it in America
