Below. After my ex wife and the IRS I get to keep enough to pay the bills and save a little. For that I am fortunate and thank God.

Extremely extremely below but starting to loosen the purse strings some in retirement.

I have a teenage daughter going into her senior year and is on the cheer squad.

Id say I live at or slightly below.
My checking account generally stays about the same amount in it month to month. I add a little money into my savings off each check and I'm pretty aggressive on what I put towards my 401k (not max but a decent percent). I could always cut back on what I put into my savings and my 401k contribution if things get rough, but for now I'm good.

We live within our means. We are fortunate to have an income that provides flexibility. My family does not “want” for much but we also have been pretty good at limiting lifestyle creep.

I make diddly squat and as a result I don’t spend much. But I am happy. Not in debt, so I can’t say I’m living above my means.
Then you’re richer than most baw

Why are you so poor?

“I live in a 750 sf house paid in cash, save every penny I make. Never have eaten out in my life, nor purchased a car newer than 8 years old. Can’t fathom how people aren’t saving 85% of their income every single day. Now I’m going to go relax on my used Big Lots furniture…”

Right at and its honestly frustrating as frick. I have an upper level 6 fig job, but wife doesnt work and we have a 3 year old. So basically I have just enough of cover mortgage all insurance, bills, food and whatever we do w the kid on the weekend. Basically throw one suprise expense (ac repair, new tires) and im breaking dead even for the month. Wife kinda wants another kid snd not gonna lie one of my reasons why no is I want my lifestyle to start to match the heavy arse load I have at work.... I dont need a bently but this shite is tiring.
I feel that. Depending on the year my pre-tax income starts with 2 and sometimes a 3.
But with the kid + high COL area + trying to backfill the savings I missed by getting a late start, feel like I’m barely treading water. I’m slightly ahead every month but it just takes one A/C issue or something to wash out several good months in a row.
Yes - it’s first world problems - but makes you realize there is a stark difference between upper middle class and actually being rich.
Because this ain’t rich.

Way below. We're retired and if my grown kids knew how much we have saved, they would lose it.

Other than a mortgage I have no debt so I guess I’m breaking even.
Or something
